Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katheryne Gomez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Katheryne , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I took a huge risk by taking on my company name “Cabrona Enchilada” , a risk I would be willing to take again and again . If you look up what Cabrona means in the english language you will find the meaning “bitch” but I disagree the TRUE meaning of Cabrona is a woman who is stubborn, independent and very opinionated. She tends to not care what the rest of the world thinks . I acquired the name after remembering all those times I wanted to give up and told myself “Eres Cabrona tu puedes”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At the age of 12 my dad , brother and I moved back to Puebla, Mexico due to some unforeseen circumstances . Since I can remember my whole family is full of what we call “comerciantes” . I started helping the family business as soon as I got to Mexico and gained a huge amount of knowledge and later on moving back to Houston acquiring odd jobs I took on in corporate and restaurant businesses . After a massive work burn out I was tired and numb. Took a random adrenaline pumped chance , drove up and down the street selling the one thing I knew how to do “Chamoy Apples” sold all 15 in less than an hour . I couldn’t shake that strange feeling I was on the right path . My already creative side took over , and with customers comments on how crazy & good my products were , my personality flourish and today with blood , sweat and tears I continue to do my best in representing my roots .

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’m a first generation immigrant and breaking educational barriers on my own is extremely hard when I was not presented or given the correct tools but my resilience has helped acquire what I think is best for my business and for myself as a business owner branching out . I’ve worked more than the average business owner because of my circumstances but that will never define how successful a business can become if I work hard and never give up. I hope others will have patience for those breaking generational curses .

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Unfortunately this is not one of those awesome business stories where someone believes in you and hands you capital . If you have no support or means of capital this one’s for you . I cut down on everything I knew would be aimlessly spend and pumped it into my company. It helped me appreciate the win and losses ,I believed in myself and although I never had capital I’m now dealing with investors that appreciate my cutthroat methods.
