Katherine, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.

In Miami you will find a lot of photographers that will offer a variety of styles and niches like weddings, maternity etc, but you will find difficult to find one that focuses in giving your pets the spotlight they deserve. Pets, specially dogs, have become an incredible important part of a lot of families, some even call them their child…. and if you think about it, most photographers don’t really keep this in mind. At Pawz Photo Studio my primary focus is centered on creating captivating and heartwarming memories of our furry friends and capturing the unique and playful personalities that make each animal special and giving dog owners a unforgettable memory that will last them forever.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Wood.

Katherine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for pet photography started with a profound love of animals and photography and by combining these 2 passions, Pawz Photo Studio was born!

For quite a long time, I searched for my passion and dream career. I even started a candle business during COVID, but I never truly connected with it. As we all know, this country offers amazing opportunities, but it can also lead to a crazy busy lifestyle and when your mind is scattered in every direction, it becomes challenging to focus and delve deep into your heart to discover your true soul purpose.

Earlier this year, life forced me to take a much-needed, sweet, and extended time off. This period gave me ample opportunity to meditate on what I truly wanted to do with my life and how I could express my gratitude to the universe for giving me a second chance. It was during this introspective phase that all the pieces of my purpose began to fall into place and allowed me to realize that working with dogs and capturing their precious energy through photography was the perfect blend for me.

Besides offering private sessions, I also dedicate part of my time to providing my services to local rescues by taking pictures of dogs in need of a forever home. I believe a picture can evoke emotions that a million words might not convey, and by helping these rescue dogs showcase their amazing personalities through photos, we can truly touch hearts and expedite their search for a forever home. As a result, you will find numerous dogs available for adoption featured on our social media and website!

At Pawz Photo Studio, my primary focus is on capturing the distinctive and playful personalities of our furry friends, preserving their essence in photos that will become cherished memories for a lifetime.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

As a dog photographer focused on creating unforgettable memories for owners and aiding rescues with compelling pictures, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist if how profound the impact I make on people’s lives when they see their final product after the photoshoot and their hearths are full of joy is very rewarding, they know they will be able to look at their pictures for years and have an beautiful memory of their fur ones when they leave this planet.

Besides the private sessions, what really makes my heart full is help dogs available for adoption get beautiful pictures where their personalities and soul are reflected thru a photo that will help capture someone’s eye and fall in love with them and be their forever home!

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

When you are aligned with your purpose and true desires, even the roughest road becomes enjoyable. I believe every business, especially during its initial stages of trial and error, experiences ups and downs. However, I view every challenge as an opportunity for improvement and learning. If something doesn’t go as expected, I’m always willing to pivot and adapt.

Working with animals demands lots of patience, as each dog I meet has its unique personality and of course, they are not used to posing for a camera haha! To ensure they feel as comfortable as possible and truly enjoy every minute of the session, I must constantly adjust and match their energy and allow them to adjust to the new environment as well.
