Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katherine Studley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Katherine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

The biggest risk I’ve ever taken is definitely starting The Only Consultant. I heard about OnlyFans for the first time in November of 2020. That December, while I was still working at my last job, I decided to write an ebook geared toward OnlyFans creators. When I started to sell it, people were reaching out saying they actually wanted me to do their taxes instead, so I quit my job on the spot on February 1st of 2021 to start doing taxes for OnlyFans models. This was before OnlyFans was mainstream. No one had heard of it, and everyone thought I was insane because I was doing taxes for amateur p*rn stars. I had never used social media, I had never used TikTok or made a Reel… I didn’t really know how to market myself at all, but I just knew that there was success on the other side so I went all-in. I actually had clients before I even had accountants to do the work. I was literally waking up in cold sweats. And then luckily, the tax deadline for 2021 got extended from April 15th to May 15th, which gave me another month to catch up on the first month that I had just been spinning my wheels for. That was heaven sent. It turned out pretty well, but still can be pretty stressful.

Katherine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We are a boutique tax firm that has expanded into different financial services and business consulting. I got here because I’m a tax accountant by trade. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked in CPA firms for a few years but hated it. When I moved from Buffalo to DC I started working for the government, and then I heard about OnlyFans and started doing this. I believe s*x work is work; I’m proud that I’m able to provide judgement-free tax help for small businesses that have a stigma and are taboo. I get to empower my clients (who are mostly women) with financial knowledge every day, and bring the same dignity to their finances they would get if they were in any other industry.

The Only Consultant is unique because of our ability to address the unique problems that my clients face. There’s a ton of stigma against their jobs that prevent or discourage them from seeking financial services from a regular accountant. I have clients in several niches and many write offs require a full understanding of the “spicy” industry. There’s definitely a lack of financial literacy in the community as well, so I dedicate a lot of my time to educating clients. I know other firms don’t take the time to ensure their clients truly understand the tax process. This is what sets us apart from traditional accounting firms.

I want everyone to know that I’m a real person, I’m authentic, I’m dedicated, and I sincerely want everyone to have the best time and a fulfilling life.

I believe financial literacy is a basic human right. Filing taxes is the baseline for thriving in society: loans, mortgages, credit, new businesses… and self-employment income from activities like OnlyFans or exotic dancing can propel you into any other venture and hopefully lifetime success.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

When I started this business, nothing was working out. When I say nothing was working out… literally nothing was happening. I had no money, almost went bankrupt several times, almost couldn’t pay my rent. I put everything on the line to build this. I went from working a safe job at the government to being a barista and running a startup. I would meet with my friend-slash-first-employee (who was living in Vietnam at the time) at 4:15 in the morning, work a shift at the coffee shop from 5:45 until 1pm, come home, and start taking calls at 2. I was working nonstop with no money. I actually started a marketing company just to fund The Only Consultant with the aforementioned friend. We ran a creative consulting agency taking social media marketing and branding clients.

Another challenge I had to overcome starting this business was actually not being a s*x worker. I had to gain respect in the industry before clients could trust me. I completely immersed myself in the digital s*x worker culture on social media. I met all the internet house moms, learned as much as I could about the lives and work of dancers, OnlyFans models, anyone in the s*x work industry that I could. It was a lot.

Have you ever had to pivot?

Going from a safe career into entrepreneurship has been a never ending series of pivots. I initially offered tax preparation and was trying to anticipate what clients would need next. I thought that life insurance would have been the next needed service, so I took a cram course and became certified in life insurance. When I tried to sell it I realized my client base actually didn’t care at all about life insurance. So I figured, alright, I’ll do everyone’s books, I’ll start offering bookkeeping. No one cared about that either, but I was getting so many requests to form LLCs. Every time I’d post about life insurance or bookkeeping, people would ask me about LLC setups. So I pivoted again to setting up LLCs— then I got everyone’s attention. After they cared about LLCs, then they started to care about bookkeeping… soon they’ll care about life insurance.

I’m constantly pivoting in my social media marketing because the algorithm and trends are always changing. Even just recently I was ready to make an OnlyFans page to create a place where OF influencers could access tax resources. I polled my audience and I quickly learned that influencers hang out on Telegram. So my latest pivot is creating a Telegram group chat to spread the good news of the tax law.
