We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katherine Ro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katherine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is an independent short film called Hybrid, which my husband and I created with the support of our executive producer, Jason Edwards, and Jackson Rathbone, who also starred in it alongside me. This project was a completely new and valuable learning experience, not just because I had the opportunity to act in it, but also because of my deep involvement in the creative process. I was hands-on from pre-production to post-production, helping curate dialogue, observing how scenes were cut and edited, and understanding how each decision brought the story to life. As an actress, my role usually involves supporting the creative vision of the projects I’m hired on, but having the chance to contribute behind the scenes and add my creative input was truly incomparable—an opportunity that many actors don’t often get. Special shout out to Jackson Rathbone, whose creative input truly moved the story forward, adding meaning and vibrancy to the project.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a Venezuelan-born, American-raised actress whose passion for TV and film began at a young age. I started in the industry through a Nickelodeon International Children’s Day radio commercial, doing voice-over work in both Spanish and English. My journey continued through modeling and local theater acting before transitioning into commercials, ultimately setting my sights on TV and film. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, a professional stuntman known for doubling for Chris Pratt, which is a funny coincidence since my husband’s name is Chris, and Chris Pratt’s wife’s name is Katherine. We have two amazing boys.
What am I most proud of? There are quite a few accomplishments I hold dear. To name a few quirky ones, I modeled and coached runway at just 5’4”, was named Utah’s Top Modeling Coach and Mentor by The Huntsman Cancer Foundation at age 23, and had a series of semi-successful side hustles in my early 20s. But what I’m most proud of is the family and life my husband and I have built from scratch, surrounded by the love and support of our friends and family. I’m passionate about community and growing together with others.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Anyone who’s been through auditions for lead or supporting roles knows it’s no walk in the park—it feels like an extreme sport on crutches. The process, the hoops you have to jump through, and the emotional toll of high-stakes auditions are not for the faint-hearted. It’s always surprising that we keep coming back, whether we land the role or not.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think anyone in a creative field solely pursuing their craft is often seen as chasing illusive pursuits—we are often viewed as dreamers, bravely reaching beyond what others consider immediately tangible or realistic. Yet, what’s often overlooked is that creative work, while a slow and challenging journey, is also deeply rewarding. It requires immense stamina, resilience, and mental strength because true success takes time; there’s no instant gratification here. Every seed we plant typically takes a few years to blossom.
