Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katherine “Kitty” Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katherine “Kitty” , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking a risk often means stepping into the unknown, trusting that your passion and purpose will outweigh the uncertainty. For me, that risk began when I chose to leave the security of stable employment to follow my deep love for physical movement. I became a certified yoga instructor and launched my own business: Secret Stash Yoga. It was a leap into entrepreneurship that required not only belief in my craft, but the courage to wear every hat in the business. I was no longer just a teacher—I became the marketing strategist, the scheduler, the financial planner, the administrator, and the one responsible for building a team of like-minded instructors.
In those early days, motivation ebbed and flowed. What kept me going was discipline—waking up each day with purpose, even when the path ahead felt unclear. Discipline became the anchor that helped me weather the inevitable doubts and growing pains of building something from the ground up. The more I pushed forward, the more I realized that this journey wasn’t just about fitness or flexibility—it was about creating a space where people could reconnect with their bodies, minds, and inner truth.
Then came an even bigger risk—one that pushed me even further outside of conventional norms. I decided to integrate cannabis into the yoga experience, introducing Ganja Yoga classes to my community in Colorado Springs. With medical cannabis now accessible, I saw an opportunity to create a space where people could explore the synergistic benefits of plant medicine and mindful movement. But navigating this space came with its own set of challenges. The legal gray areas around consumption, finding an appropriate location, and the lingering stigma surrounding cannabis use made it a daunting endeavor. I worried about how the community would perceive my work and whether people would understand the deeper intention behind it.
Despite those fears, I moved forward—because I knew my community, my tribe, was out there. Secret Stash Yoga became more than just a business; it became a beacon for those seeking a more holistic understanding of the body-mind-plant connection. By holding space for Ganja Yoga, I invited others to step into a judgment-free zone where healing, exploration, and education could coexist. Taking this risk wasn’t just about innovation—it was about answering a calling I felt in my soul. It’s not always easy, especially as the cultural climate around plant medicine continues to evolve, but it’s a risk I’m proud to have taken. Because for me, this work is about more than yoga—it’s about creating community, sparking curiosity, and standing in authenticity.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How you got into your industry:
Sports and physical activity have always been integral parts of my life. Growing up in an active family with siblings who were also heavily involved in sports, I naturally gravitated toward movement from an early age. In middle school, I played every sport I could, and while some of my classmates were voted “Most Likely to Succeed,” I was proudly voted “Most Athletic.” In high school, I continued my athletic journey by playing basketball and volleyball. I even gave track and field a try, though I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. Volleyball, however, was where my heart truly belonged.
My passion for volleyball led me to earn an athletic scholarship to Trinidad State Junior College in southern Colorado. I played for two years while earning my Associate of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Art and Education. After college, like many former athletes, I found myself wondering what was next. I knew I wanted to maintain a lifestyle rooted in health and wellness, but I wasn’t sure exactly how that would take shape.
During my time as a college athlete, we practiced yoga once a week as part of our training regimen. That experience left a lasting impression on me. Yoga became more than just a form of cross-training—it became a consistent part of my life and a personal outlet for balance and self-discovery. It wasn’t until about five years after graduating that I realized this was something I wanted to pursue professionally and share with others.
I spent two to three years researching teacher training programs, saving up, and building the confidence to take the leap. In 2017, I enrolled in a 200-hour extended-format yoga teacher training at Cambio Yoga in Colorado Springs. That same year, I founded Secret Stash Yoga. Although I wasn’t certified yet, I didn’t want to wait to start building the foundation of the business. I took on the administrative and operational responsibilities and began assembling a team of certified instructors who believed in the vision.
Along the way, I discovered the ‘Ganja Yoga’ book by Dee Dussault—a pioneer in blending cannabis and yoga. Her work resonated deeply with me, and I reached out. I was fortunate to become her virtual brand assistant, which gave me valuable insight into what it takes to run a cannabis-integrated yoga business. In 2019, I traveled to Los Angeles to complete her Ganja Yoga Certification course. Shortly after, I completed my own 200-hour yoga certification.
With these experiences and tools in hand, I officially stepped into my role as a teacher within Secret Stash Yoga, alongside my incredible team of instructors. That was the beginning of this incredible journey—one rooted in movement, growth, and community.

what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others.
At Secret Stash Yoga, we offer more than just traditional yoga classes—we provide a holistic experience where the ancient practice of yoga meets the healing power of plant medicine. Rooted in nature and grounded on the mat, our unique approach bridges movement, mindfulness, and intentional cannabis use to support full-spectrum wellness. This integration sets us apart from conventional studios by offering a deeply immersive, heart-centered space where individuals can explore the synergistic connection between body, mind, and plant medicine.
One of the most common challenges we see is that many people are curious about incorporating cannabis or even other herbal remedies into their wellness journey but don’t know where to begin or feel uncertain about doing so in a safe, informed, and non-judgmental environment. Our niche lies in creating exactly that kind of space—a welcoming, stigma-free community led by knowledgeable instructors who understand both the science and spirit of cannabis. We provide education, guidance, and an open dialogue so participants can deepen their practice and their understanding of how plant medicine can support healing, self-awareness, and balance.
Secret Stash Yoga serves as a trusted guide and grounding place to explore, learn, and grow. In doing so, we’re not just teaching yoga—we’re cultivating a movement of mindful, plant-powered wellness that speaks to the heart of a growing community.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work
As the founder of Secret Stash Yoga, there is so much to be proud of since launching in 2017. Building a plant-medicine-infused practice in a space where few—if any—were doing it at the time takes not only vision but also tremendous courage. I stepped into an emerging, often misunderstood niche and carved out a path with intention, authenticity, and heart. That in itself is a huge accomplishment.
I can be proud of pioneering a wellness movement in my community—one that challenges outdated stigmas around cannabis and offers a safe, inclusive space for people to explore the profound connections between mind, body, and plant. I’ve not only gained certifications and deepened my own expertise, but I’ve also empowered others through my teachings, cultivated a loyal community, and created something from the ground up that reflects my values and passions.
Even through the ups and downs—moments of uncertainty, growth, and evolution, I’ve stayed rooted in my mission. I’ve remained committed to holding space for healing, self-discovery, and connection. That perseverance, and the lives I’ve positively impacted along the way, are something to be incredibly proud of. I’ve built more than a business, I’ve contributed to a movement and a community, and that’s no small feat. And If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to join me!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most powerful lessons I’ve had to unlearn as a business owner and wellness professional is the grip of imposter syndrome—the persistent feeling that you’re not truly qualified, that you’re somehow faking it, even in the face of evidence that you are more than capable. It’s something many professionals experience, especially those carving their own path in emerging or unconventional spaces. For me, it was especially present in the early days of founding Secret Stash Yoga in 2017.
Even though I had the vision, the passion, and the dedication, I hesitated to step into the role of teacher and leader right away. I didn’t begin teaching until 2019, after completing my certifications and deepening my studies. In the meantime, I hired instructors, managed the business, and built a brand, while internally wrestling with doubts about whether I was truly someone others would want to work for or follow. I questioned my own authority, wondering if I was “enough” to lead something so bold and unique.
Yet despite those doubts, I couldn’t ignore the deep knowing within me—this was my calling. I felt it in my bones. And that quiet inner truth kept me moving forward, even when fear tried to slow me down. Ironically, imposter syndrome also fueled my commitment to education and growth. I’ve continued to invest in learning, expanding my expertise so that I can confidently and knowledgeably guide others. I’ve gone on to become a Certified Personal Trainer in 2020 (which is still active), I have completed a 100hr certified meditation course, received my 20hr Yin Yoga certificate, a 150hr herbal medicine making course, and just recently in 2024 became a Nutrition Specialist. I am currently enrolled in my 300hr yoga teacher training also.
Over time, I’ve learned to unlearn the doubt and to rebuild trust in myself—trust that I do know what I’m doing, that my lived experience, education, and heart-led mission are more than enough. I’ve come to understand that leadership isn’t about being perfect or having all the answers it’s about showing up with authenticity, being willing to grow, and staying true to your purpose. Sharing that truth is important, because I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. And if my journey can help someone else move through their own doubts and stand more confidently in their calling, then that’s something I’m proud to own and share.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would absolutely choose the same path in health and wellness. While it’s easy to imagine how things might have been different had I grown up with other influences or resources—perhaps leading me toward a different direction. My heart tells me I still would have found my way to this work. In fact, if anything, I might have leaned into it even earlier and maybe I could have done a more traditional route like physical therapy or a degree more specifically focused on the body, gone deeper into the intersection of physical health and psychology, which has always fascinated me.
I honestly can’t imagine doing something entirely different, like becoming a lawyer or working in a field disconnected from the body, movement, and healing. This path, as winding and nontraditional as it has been, has always felt aligned with who I am. Every decision I’ve made, every turn I’ve taken, has been guided by a deep love for wellness, self-discovery, and community connection.
I’m genuinely grateful for the journey—ups, downs, and all—because it led me to create Secret Stash Yoga, a space that allows me to live out my purpose. The choices I’ve made along the way have come from a place of love—for myself, for others, and for the healing potential of this work. And for that, I wouldn’t change a thing.
