Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katherine Játiva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katherine , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I currently run two companies, both of which I built from the ground up: Kawallu Company and Infinite Blooms Wholesale.
After earning my master’s degree in Barcelona, I returned to Ecuador with a clear goal in mind: to help people and showcase the exceptional quality of Ecuadorian products to the world. I always knew I wanted to start my own business, and I was determined to create something meaningful that would positively impact the people of Ecuador. During the pandemic, I became acutely aware of the long-term global challenges this problem would have, particularly for those in rural areas. I shared my idea with my husband, who is an Automotive Engineer with a creative spirit. He fully supported the vision and saw it as an opportunity to contribute his skills to a meaningful cause. And together, we founded Kawallu Company, an ethical brand dedicated to empowering Ecuadorian artisans by providing them with better income opportunities for their families and communities.
The idea for Kawallu Company emerged while I was deeply involved in the floral industry and pursuing my passion for international trade, where I worked as a Sales Executive, exporting beautiful roses to the United States. As people may Know, Ecuador is globally recognized as the premier producer of roses, renowned for its exceptional quality and diversity. I worked in this company for nearly seven years. When the company was sold, I found myself ready for a new challenge. This led me to start my own venture with two incredible partners who also have extensive experience in the floral industry. Together, we founded Infinite Blooms Wholesale, with a mission to support floral professionals and help their businesses flourish.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a passion for traveling, exploring new languages, and experiencing different cultures. This made me realize that studying International Business was the right choice for me. My parents were very supportive of my interests and encouraged me to follow my dreams.
Although I haven’t traveled extensively, I had the opportunity to live in Europe for a year while pursuing my master’s degree in Barcelona. Upon returning, I began working with exporting companies, which helped me develop my sales skills, improve my English, and enhance my management abilities.
Both of my companies are dedicated to supporting and empowering people to enhance their families, communities, and businesses. Kawallu Company collaborates with talented Ecuadorian artisans to produce 100% handmade items. We create beautiful fashion leather products, handknit alpaca sweaters, scarves, and handcrafted jewelry for Equestrians and fashion lovers. I know why Equestrians? I thought being an Equestrian myself, I want to offer great vintage, western fashion products for the Equestrian community too.
Infinite Blooms empowers floral professionals by delivering fresh-cut flowers directly from the farm to their business doorstep within four days. This ensures they receive high-quality blooms for their retail shops and events straight from our Ecuadorian Farms.
I’m incredibly proud and grateful to be able to help these people achieve better income opportunities. My heart is full knowing that our efforts make a meaningful difference in their lives and business.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My mom and dad always taught me that hard work is key to achieving the life I dreamed of. As a child and teenager, they emphasized that responsibilities come first. For example, I had to finish my homework before I could do anything else. While this is common advice, it deeply rooted in me a strong sense of discipline. I find it hard to start anything new until I’ve completed my chores or responsibilities first. I think this sense of discipline helped me get promoted at work and earn recognition and trust from my bosses in every job I had.
I was deeply committed to my job for years, and now that I have the opportunity to run my own business, I find myself relentless in tackling every challenge I encounter. It’s hard for me to accept a “no” as an answer. I’m always looking for ways to overcome challenges and find solutions for the business. If one approach doesn’t work, I believe there’s always another way to achieve our goals. I’m a hard worker, always determined to achieve what I need.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As I mentioned before, I was deeply committed to my job and truly passionate about what I was doing. When the company was sold and I had to leave, the way I was let go broke my heart. It made me realize that I was just a number to them and that all the hard work I had put in over those six years seemed meaningless.
This experience taught me that family, friends, and self-worth are what truly matter in life. It also made me realize that I was ready to start something new on my own, supported by the people I love (my husband, family and friends) and the ones who believe in me (my partners). I now know that I truly have the skills to run my own company. And that hard work will led you to achieve all your dreams.
Since I had the opportunity to start these companies, I learn that you dont just need to believe in yourself, you need to be absolutely relentless in your belief, in yourself and what you are capable of.
