We were lucky to catch up with Katharine Dreier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katharine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
DryerDays is sort of a spin off of my last name, but also refers to a big part of my life that I share proudly. I have been sober for 11 years so the “dryer days” kinda plays in there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Both of my parents are very talented artists and I never felt like my work was anything like theirs. I was a hair stylist for ten years and when my now ex husband and I had our second child and relocated to a new state, I decided to become a stay at home mom. I needed a hobby so I went to my local Michael’s store and bought a bunch of acrylic paints. I then discovered this new art form : acrylic pouring.
I became addicted. I learned everything I could off of YouTube. I started recording myself simply so I could go back and see what worked and what hat hadn’t.
Then I decided maybe I could make my own YouTube channel. So I did.
One of my viewers suggested I try epoxy resin and the rest is history. I switched exclusively to resin artwork and crafting and then that led to Alcohol Ink art. So I consider myself a fluid artists since I work primarily with those mediums

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I try to be as relatable as possible. I bring the real deal to my videos and posts. I share if I don’t like something I made and why. Or how a mishap happened and how it can be fixed – or if it can’t. I know I’m not perfect, I don’t create perfect pieces all of the time and I think beginners or even seasoned artists appreciate another artists vulnerability..

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I sell my DryerDays products exclusively through my e-commerce site. But I promote it on socials and YouTube. I had an Etsy shop and I still do like Etsy. But for the volume I started selling, an e-commerce store just made more sense. I use Squarespace but I have another e-commerce store with Wix and that’s excellent too.
