Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katey Johsnon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katey , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, let’s take a stroll on memory lane, back to when you were an apprentice or intern. What’s a memorable story from that time that you can share with us?
I am a huge fan of internships. The experience is worth it in itself, but if you can get paid, even better! What I wish someone had told me in high school is try everything. To me, figuring out your calling, passions, and purpose is much more about figuring out what you don’t like than what you do like. So don’t be afraid to try lots of different things.
I have had so many different things in the journey that led to where I am today. I did internships, asked to shadow people, and had several different jobs.
A few internships I had were:
-lobbyist
-ranch hand
-Northwest FL Water Management District
-I shadowed in a vet office for a week
Interning as a Lobbyist was one of the coolest and best learning experiences. I was interested in politics at the time, and it was so exciting to see the political process first hand. It was also the absolute best networking experience I’ve ever had. I met amazing people I still stay in touch with today. It also revealed to me that while I enjoyed, loved, and appreciated the experience, I realized I didn’t want to go into politics.
When I interned as a ranch hand, I learned so many valuable lessons about hard work, confidence, communication, and believing in yourself- not to mention cattle ranching. They had a saying I’ll never forget- whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a photographer and content creator. I played around with cameras and photography most of my life, and got serious about it in 2020. It is such a special, sacred job to me. People trust us with their seasons, with their stories. We get to freeze time, and show our clients things they may not see otherwise- the way their partner kisses them, how their children hold on to them, how beautiful they are as a family. Many times I have taken the last pictures someone has of a loved one. It’s very special. I also love content creation as another creative outlet. I love doing this for brides on their wedding day, it’s the one thing I wish I had at my own wedding. Videography is beautiful in its own art form, and content creation is just another expression of that and to relive the day. I also love creating content for brands and products I truly love and believe in through fun, engaging videos.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am a big fan of “you are the niche.” If niching down to one or two topics doesn’t sound authentic to you, don’t do it! Be you. You can talk about lots of different things as long as you are true to you. When you are trying to be someone else or copy another page you like, the audience can feel it. There is a difference between liking someone’s page and being inspired, vs wanting to be just like them. No one else can be you, and that is what makes your page unique and people want to follow you. Everyone has their own vibe and energy and there are people out there who will connect with YOU. When you are just being yourself and sharing what you truly love and are passionate about, it takes the pressure off and becomes much easier.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Social media and email marketing. Don’t sleep on email! I do a monthly newsletter and then sprinkle in other emails throughout, always always always trying to add value, not just pitch a sale. I will share books I’m reading, podcasts I love, recipes, styling tips, links to clothes, etc.
