We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katelynn Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katelynn below.
Katelynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Am I happier as a business owner? Without a doubt, yes. But is it easier? Absolutely not.
I left my corporate job because something deep inside of me was screaming for more – more freedom, more creativity, more impact. I wanted to build something that was mine. Something that reflected who I truly am. And while that dream lit a fire in me, the reality of entrepreneurship has tested me in ways I never imagined.
There was a day not too long ago when I was in the middle of a client project that was spiraling out of scope, invoices were delayed, and my inbox was a storm of “urgent” messages. I remember sitting on the floor of my studio, completely drained, staring at the wall, wondering, “Wouldn’t it just be easier to have a regular 9-to-5 again? To clock in, do the work, and clock out without carrying the weight of everything on my shoulders?”
But then I paused and looked around. That wall I was staring at? I designed it. That space? I created it. That client? They chose me. This business- it’s mine. And with all the chaos, there’s still this unmatched sense of purpose. I’m building a life not just for today but for my family’s future. I’m proving to myself every single day that I am capable, creative, and courageous enough to do hard things.
So yes, I think about what it would be like to go back, but not because I want to. It’s because I’m human. And entrepreneurship, for all its beauty, brings you face to face with every fear, every doubt, every part of yourself you’ve never had to confront. But that’s also where the growth is. That’s where the magic is.
And every time I return to my “why,” I remember, I didn’t leave comfort for convenience. I left to create. And that makes all the difference.

Katelynn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After more than a decade in digital marketing, I found myself at a crossroads. I had climbed the ladder, hit the goals, and checked all the boxes but something was missing. I realized I craved more creativity, more connection, and more meaning in my work. I’ve always loved design – it was the thing I came back to, time and time again, whether it was rearranging my own home or helping friends create spaces they loved.
So I listened to that inner nudge and enrolled at the New York Institute of Art & Design. I started small, taking on e-design projects during evenings and weekends while still working full-time. Then, during maternity leave, everything shifted. Becoming a mom cracked me wide open. It gave me a new perspective on life, purpose, and what I wanted to model for my child. That was the moment I stopped waiting and started building.
I left my corporate job and launched my own business: Katelynn Scott Interior Design. Today, I offer full-service interior design, including space planning, custom furnishings, color consultations, and more, handling every detail from concept to installation. I serve busy professionals and growing families who want a space that reflects who they are and supports how they live. My clients come to me overwhelmed, stuck, or too busy to bring their vision to life and I bring clarity, creativity, and confidence to the process.
What sets me apart is the way I combine my marketing background with intuitive design. I understand how to listen -not just to what someone says they want, but to how they want to feel. I don’t believe in cookie-cutter interiors. I believe your home should tell your story.
What I’m most proud of? Taking the leap. Building a business that aligns with my soul. And seeing the look on a client’s face when they walk into their transformed space and say, “This feels like me.”
What I want people to know is this: great design isn’t about trends-it’s about creating a space that supports your life, your family, your dreams. And that’s exactly what I’m here to help you do.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe reputation is built one decision, one client, and one moment of integrity at a time.
For me, it’s never just been about “pretty spaces”. It’s about how people feel in the homes I help them create. That emotional connection, that attention to detail, that commitment to truly understanding each client’s needs -that’s what has built my reputation.
I’ve learned that consistency is everything. Showing up fully. Doing what I say I’m going to do. Being transparent and communicative through every step of the process. My clients trust me because they know I genuinely care not just about the design, but about them.
Also, my marketing background gave me a strong foundation. I understand how to present my brand clearly and connect authentically with my audience. I focus on storytelling, behind-the-scenes insights, and highlighting the transformation, not just of the space but of the client’s life in that space.
Word of mouth has been huge, too. When clients have a great experience, they tell their friends and family. That organic growth, rooted in trust and results, is something I’m incredibly proud of.
At the end of the day, people remember how you make them feel. I think that’s what has truly helped me stand out.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media has been less about strategy and more about showing up as myself. I decided early on that I wasn’t going to wait until everything looked “perfect” to start sharing. Because the truth is, life, design, business, it’s all beautifully imperfect. And I think people connect with realness more than they do with polish.
My biggest advice? Don’t overthink it. Don’t wait for perfect lighting, perfect captions, or perfect timing. Just start. Share what excites you, what moves you, what challenges you. Let people into your world. Show your face. Tell your story. That’s what makes your brand unforgettable- not just what you create, but how and why you create it.
Social media isn’t just a marketing tool – it’s a relationship builder. And when you treat it that way, the right audience will find you.
