We were lucky to catch up with Katelyn Mervar recently and have shared our conversation below.

Katelyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?

MAGA Mouse became a ministry birthed out of necessity during a dark time in American history when our rights were being stripped away. The Lord used MAGA Mouse as an avenue to reach out and encourage the J6 political prisoners and their families, along with rally the “troops” to their plight, while sharing the undying hope found in Jesus Christ.

How “MAGA Mouse” originated: James McGrew (a hero and veteran) wrote the original tale of this real life mouse who appeared in their cells one day in what has notoriously been called the “DC Gulag” due to the inhumane conditions the J6 patriots suffered while being held hostage there.

James went on to describe in this fun light hearted tale how they put this mouse in “witness-protection” while affectionally calling him “MAGA Mouse” … :)

When I read this tale I felt the Lord put it on my heart to write a story of my own about MAGA Mouse to boost morale amongst our patriots, while encouraging patriots on the “outside” to do something, ultimately giving God the glory. Thus, MAGA Mouse To The Rescue — a fun tale sharing truths for all ages was born, being published in 2023.

This tale was later followed by, ‘They Came Upon A Midnight Raid’ as MAGA Mouse leaped to action once more to help expose the criminal activity of the FBI in regards to J6 whistleblower Jeremy Brown. Once again this tale brings truths to light in a fun format for all ages, and was published in 2024.

Katelyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am first and foremost a born-again Christian. Each season of life brings new adventures and if you choose to surrender your life to the Lord you will never regret it. I’ve been an advocate for the past several years — working alongside Hoosiers for Life to completely abolish abortion. I believe no nation can endure who permits what God forbids. The killing of pre-born children is wickedness in God’s sight and it must be abolished. It was through Hoosiers for Life that I met an amazing God-fearing woman named Eva Edl. She was in a communist death camp at the age of 9 years old. The Lord spared her life through miraculous events and brought her to America where she has been a bold defender of the pre-born ever since. When she learned of people still being held in the concentration death camps well after the war ended she began to write postcards with scripture to them. When I learned of this I was so impressed by her and wanted to know how I could help. She said that was all ended when the Soviet Union was dissolved but that she would pray with me about whom I was to write. Soon after I learned of the Patriot Mail Project and of all these people being rounded up and sent to prison for peacefully and patriotically protesting on January 6th. I knew right away that was my answer! I began writing to them and the Lord took it from there as I was faithful to obey His call and take each step of faith along the way.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Yes! ALL for the glory of GOD! There is a quote that has stuck with me and that is,

“Until you have a cause greater than yourself don’t expect to get beyond yourself.”

I’d encourage your readers to ask themselves this question. “Who are you?” What comes to mind. You may think, “Well, I’m a writer or an illustrator.” But you fill in the blank.

It’s important to note that something or someone will have first place in your life; be that work, ambition, athletics, or a relationship.

But if that is stripped away, then who are you?

When you find your identity in the One who created you, it will not only change your life but it will change the way you go about your creative endeavors. It will affect the way you run your business and ultimately raise the bar in everything you do because you’ll be working for the Lord not for men.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

Absolutely! Living Waters Ministry was a crucial resource and I’d encourage everyone to look them up. They not only helped me learn how to effectively communicate my faith but how to incorporate the gospel into everything I set out to do. Thus, all the MAGA Mouse promotional materials, books, and newsletters shared the simple message of the gospel starting by asking the question; Are you a good person? And then walking the reader through the Ten Commandments. Have you ever lied? Stolen? Taken God’s Name in Vain? Do you know that Jesus said to lust after someone is to commit adultery and to hate someone is to commit murder? In light of God’s standard we all stand condemned. But that is NOT God’s will for us. That is why He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins. So that if we simply repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus we might not perish but have eternal life. Now THAT IS GOOD NEWS FOR EVERYONE!!
