Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katelyn Cheers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katelyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I wish that I would have started my business sooner. I started my business in November 2020. I had been working in the financial industry for 11.5 years, taking some time off in between to raise my boys. I had been taking photos prior to starting my business of my children and family and always knew that I had a passion for it. When my children were old enough to start school and daycare I knew that I was ready to get back to work, but I wasn’t quite sure that I wanted to go back into the financial industry. I had always dreamt of owning my own business one day, though at the time I didn’t know what that would look like for me. My father started his own business once he was out of high school in 1985 and has been successfully running it up until today. I loved how he took something that he loved doing and turned it into something that he could do everyday all while being able to provide for his family. My husband could see how much I enjoyed photography and thought why not start my own photography business? And so I did!
Although I wish that I would have started my business sooner, I don’t think that I would be where I am today in my business. My children were a lot younger then and I don’t think that I would have been able to have fully given them or my business the time that I would have liked to! Starting my business in the middle of a pandemic was a risk, but I am thankful that I started it when I did.
Katelyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi friends, I’m Katelyn!
Most of my friends call me Kate! I’m a lifestyle Family and Wedding Photographer based on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and traveling beyond to capture heartfelt and truthful moments. I specialize in family, motherhood, couples and weddings offering sessions both in the studio and outdoors. I’m here for you, your story and your vision. I love capturing life as it is. The real moments. Moments of you laughing, dancing, snuggling your baby, and everything in between… the moments of you being you!
I’m a wife and mom of four boys, with twins being our youngest! I love to be outdoors any chance that I can get and the beach is my happy place! When I’m not behind my camera, you can find me spending quality time with my family, biking, taking trips to the beach and finding new places to explore.
I got into photography when I had my oldest son, Caleb. Never wanting to forget the little details about him I found myself taking photos of all of his little details and all of the things he would do. That only continued as our family continued to grow.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to provide families with everlasting memories. I love collecting moments that move my heart and in turn that moves the heart of my clients and their families. Sharing the love of a family, and creating images that get to be cherished for years to come, that’s my job and it’s so rewarding!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
When I first started out in photography, I wish that I knew of workshops that other creatives put together to help coach and guide other creatives! Never stop learning, reach out to other creatives who inspire you and never stop learning or practicing your craft. There are so many workshops and mentors that are here to help you!
