We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Wilkinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
We are Palo interior design. I took our state tree Palo Verde, and shortened it to Palo. There were a lot of businesses named Palo Verde and I wanted to still use it in the name. I’m so glad we did! I wanted to name the company after the state that I live in because I have fallen in love with Arizona and all its wildlife and deserts surroundings.
Kate, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kate Wilkinson. I am the founder/ CEO and lead designer here at Palo. I have always had a love for all things design color texture, housing how a space makes me feel. I have always had fun playing in my own home with different projects and in my salon studio I owned a salon studio and had been a hairstylist for 17 years I was ready to step away from behind the chair and take on another business venture. I decided to go with my second passion, which is interior design I had to just go for it. It had always been a dream of mine to do interior design! I think what set us apart from others is the uniqueness of our design. The fact that we can work within different budgets to make things look elevated and authentic, we specialize in creating a curated thought out vacation rental experience this is what we specialize in vacation rental interior design and set up. Our goal is to make you stand out against your competitors where you can deliver an experience for your guests to remember, and to keep coming back! Getting the most out of our clans investments is what we aim for to gain those high retention booking rates.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I did invest in setting up and subscribing to using HoneyBook, which has been great for us to have the communication with clients, funnel leads send emails collect payments. It’s been a game changer in my business and I don’t know what I would do without it. I’m not sponsored or affiliated with honey books, but it is like a workhorse for me and I would highly recommend it for those in the creative fields! I think when the communication and the flow of your set up is professional, it creates a brand loyalty and a flawless client experience and that’s what I double down on in the beginning and it’s been helpful so far.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I started this business from scratch with nothing from the ground up no investments no loans just working through it as I can and investing where I need to, to move forward. It’s been a slow journey, but I know that wecare building the foundation so that Palo can be long lasting and for smooth growth. The other struggle that we have noticed is the economy. It’s been a struggle to market to get across that this is a solution to those that are setting up a vacation rental that it matters that our services are a worthy investment. Marketing is what we are focusing on this next year 2025 and we plan to grow and extend our services!
