We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Waddell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
During my first painting class my junior year of college, I immediately fell in love with color. My painting style was noticeably different compared to my classmates & my professor at the time really encouraged me to continue on with painting.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I studied Studio Art at the College of Charleston & quickly fell in love with the painting process. Through vibrant color and stroke, I aim to bring joy and beauty through my art.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
After 7 years of being a full time artist, it’s still unbelievably rewarding when a painting sells. Even more rewarding when client’s tell me what a painting of mine means to them!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to move past the false notion that to create one needs to be steadily inspired. If being a creative is your full time job, you will inevitably not be inspired at all times. Learning to create despite that has been really crucial for my growth as an artist.
