We recently connected with Kate Tumanova and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Absolutely! Vacations, staycations, daycations, couplecations, friendcations. I genuinely believe that no matter how busy you are and no matter the pressure, it’s important to take breaks. Charge and re-fuel. The world around us is beautiful and inspiring. The new people you can meet, the new places you can find- it all adds up in your happy memory bank.
Production is not always pretty; we get down and dirty a lot. We sweat through location scouts, skip meals in long meetings, worry about timelines etc. So, it’s important to allocate time to indulge in an aesthetically pleasing POV. Have a nice meal with a view, take a road trip…Whatever it may be, doesn’t have to be long, but a reset is a good tool to remind yourself that life is more than work.
A healthy life/ work balance is directly correlated with a stable mental state. Personally, I just remind myself that we work as a team and support each other, we can delegate and share the load. Its ok to step away. The world will not end if you put your phone down for half a day. I tried; it really doesn’t end.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How much time do we have? I can talk about this for hours because it has been a wild journey and I am proud of every step.
My creative family, acting and general LA scene eventually led me to production. I have been very lucky with the people I met along the way, we were able to form a mutual pot of clients/ projects and ideas that keeps us afloat in this industry.
My company provides all and any production services starting from development and all the way to distribution. Depending on client’s needs and budget, we usually can help birth any creative idea into reality. We produce not only in most states in US but also expand overseas to Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.
I am Russian and having that background naturally provides a pretty wide reach.
Work is stressful no matter what you do, so inside each show and on any set I preach honesty and good vibes. Teamwork is what I am proud of the most. Gotta put ego aside and have a good time while also making money.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I don’t invest time or money into something I don’t understand.
There’s a million different things I get busy with, things that make sense to me.
That being said, I am always very happy and excited to see people make a killer bank with all these new things, platforms, technologies and forms of business.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I don’t spend much time thinking about other people’s struggle to understand me or my journey. I lead with logic, facts and common sense. If those are a struggle for someone- I move on.
Creatives or not, time is too precious and not everyone will understand your choices, Doesn’t matter, gotta keep going.
