We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Porter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Kate , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I’ve been in the beauty and skincare industry for over 20 years. As a makeup artist, I worked on set for many years with a range of celebrity clients on commercials, TV shows and photoshoots. I started Beauty Katering in the year 2000 and haven’t looked back. I have always been passionate about helping people look and feel their best. Skincare and makeup are very powerful tools in achieving this.
I strive to use clean beauty for both skincare and makeup and I utilize the various recycling programs available for the industry waste. I also try to use sustainable and ethically-sourced ingredients and items for treatments.
I always seek out the newest and latest beauty trends so I can stay current and up to date and offer my clients the very best services. I like to be skilled in many areas because it helps me understand all aspects of the industry.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am most proud of the fact that I started my business on my own. It was definitely not without its challenges but I did it. I’m still learning new things everyday and I always try to improve and implement the things I learn so that I can improve my overall business and services.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Covid was definitely a killer for anyone in my industry. We couldn’t do our services or even go in store to do brand ambassador work. So I was without work for quite a while and it was very scary and I wasn’t sure if I would ever recover. I just took it day by day and slowly but surely things started to pick up again and I was able to resume work. I was so thankful.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After Covid I decided to move back to CA so I had to start from scratch with clients and establishing my business here in CA. It took some time but it was worth the pivot and I’m grateful for my clients and friend who have supported me the whole way through!
