We recently connected with Kate Payne and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I very much wish (not regret) that I started my photography and artistic journey much earlier in life. It would have given me more time and energy to chase the light.
Kate, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a photographer since I was 14 and continue to focus on contemporary and fine art portraits. I am an award winning and internationally published and exhibited portrait photographer. More importantly I’m a mother & wife that is immersed in art, nature and entertaining my family & friends with various antics. My work attempts to highlight the emotions we all feel and the things we see. It is a case study of light, form and emotions. I grew up in Los Angeles, spent 20 years in the military and graduated with honors from college in my 50’s. I also served in a 25 year corporate career.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I have seen where artists are blazing the trail for NFT’s and I think its very interesting. For my photography I’m not sure how it fits in. I like that clients I photograph can walk into the future with memories in hand. Also, I understand that the importance of photos goes far beyond simply creating art or showcasing images on digital. I believe that prints still matter when it comes to giving my clients a quality product that will last for generations. For my personal art and projects, NFT’s could have a place and a following but I don’t know what that looks like today.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Someone said that 80% of photographers fail. I think the number is higher. I failed at everything related to my photography at least once. There is an ebb and flow to creating good work – its the journey through the ebb and flow that requires resilience.
