We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Obert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Kate, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first client came from Instagram. I was showing up daily, just talking about what I knew and loved, being authentic, and having fun. One day, I saw a post where someone asked a branding question in the comments, but it went unanswered. I decided to respond, never thinking it would lead to anything strategic. To my surprise, I received a DM from a woman asking if I could help bring her personality into her brand. Her Instagram was filled with repetitive selfies and lacked any dynamic elements.
Excitedly, I said yes. We had one session where I got to know her, and I charged $100. I helped her with what to wear for her brand shoot, what photos to post on her feed, and how to edit them to reflect her vibe. It was an incredibly organic experience, and looking back, it was the first glimpse of my gift and purpose. It was a pivotal moment that showed me the potential of making money online by just being myself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Kate, a personal branding and style strategist. I started in this industry after realizing my unique ability to understand people’s true essence and translate that into their visual identity. With a background in business marketing and fashion, I combine these skills to offer services like personal branding consultations, wardrobe transformations, digital presence overhauls, and ongoing brand management.
My goal is to help clients align their external appearance with their internal identity, boosting their confidence and magnetism. I solve problems like inconsistent brand messaging, lack of personal style, and difficulty in standing out in crowded markets. What sets me apart is my holistic approach that blends style and strategy, ensuring clients not only look great but also feel authentic and aligned with their brand.
I’m most proud of the transformations my clients experience—seeing them embrace their true selves and succeed both personally and professionally. I want potential clients and followers to know that my brand is all about authenticity, empowerment, and creativity. My work is dedicated to helping you feel confident and magnetic, making sure every element of your brand and style is a true reflection of who you are.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The book Traction has been instrumental in shaping my business management and entrepreneurial philosophy. Before starting my own business, I lacked formal experience in running one, which made me feel my venture wasn’t “legit.” I had no business plans, goal-setting strategies, or a clear path to achieve them. My mentor, a successful entrepreneur who built and sold companies for multi-millions, recommended Traction. This book demystified business management for me, providing clear guidelines and actionable exercises. While I haven’t implemented everything due to the unique nature of my business, the knowledge and awareness it provided have been invaluable. It helped me understand how to structure my business, set goals, and create a more legitimate and organized operation.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting in business is crucial. Recently, I discussed this with someone who felt pivoting meant quitting. I see a big difference: quitting has the energy of avoiding hard things, while pivoting is about listening to your energy and adjusting for what’s best for you and your clients.
I’ve had several pivots in my journey. Initially, I mixed fashion styling and blogging, but I pivoted when it became a chore and started consulting instead. I didn’t have a clear plan initially; I just shared what I knew and loved online, focusing on brand identity and personality. Over time, fashion naturally re-entered my business as I styled clients for brand shoots and events. By 2023, I realized 95% of my clients sought me out for fashion first. This pivot highlighted the link between looking good, feeling confident, and effective brand exposure.
Listening to these pivots led me to uniquely combine fashion and branding, creating a distinctive path in my industry. This journey has aligned me closer to my true purpose and unique value proposition.
