We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Medley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Kate, appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
As I reflect back on the last several years of my life, I marvel at how a few people have walked the journey with me with such selfless love and kindness. One of those people is my apprentice and friend, Chuck Elledge. I met Chuck close to eight years ago as a client at a studio where I was teaching in a large class setting, and eventually took him on as a private client. When I left left that studio, Chuck and I were out of contact for several months until he reached out to me to see how I was doing, only to find out that I was anxious to start my own Pilates business. He was my very first client in my new studio, PilateZENergy, and soon after, put his trust in me to train him as instructor himself. Chuck has been my most loyal colleague, helping me navigate all the challenges that every small business owner faces, especially during these challenging times, and has brought so many other wonderful friends and clients into my life, including his entire family. It warms my heart to know that there are people in the world like Chuck who love and support me unconditionally, no matter what—whether it be hanging a sign, mopping the floor, brainstorming about marketing, navigating tax issues, establishing online classes at the start of COVID, or just making my day a little brighter.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
’m a classically-trained certified Pilates instructor and founder of PilateZENergy in Point Loma, a coastal community just east of downtown San Diego. I take client focus to a whole new level through my intuitive, holistic approach that nurtures the entire body, mind, heart, and soul. To me, Pilates and movement is so much more than toning up. It’s a path to reducing pain and improving overall health, increasing flexibility and physical endurance, and feeling better about every aspect of one’s life—emotionally and physically. If you have found you are not receiving the benefits of Pilates, or have plateaued in your practice, then PilateZENergy is the place for you.
I began my Pilates journey as therapy following the death of my beloved stepfather. It was a life-changing experience that inspired me to find ways to help others live healthier, more rewarding lives—no matter their age or past fitness experience. After a year as a Pilates practitioner, I decided to take the leap and become a instructor myself, certified to teach Pilates on the mat, and all apparatus, including Reformer, Cadillac, Springboard, Jumpboard, Chair, Barrel, and more!
Bottom line: I love making people feel good, and fearless about life. What could be more important?

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I truly believe Pilates was my destiny, and it has allowed me the opportunity to help change the lives of so many others for the better. I can’t think of any more beautiful way to live my life. It is truly a blessing, and an honor to carry on the legacy of Joseph and Clara Pilates for the benefit of my clients.
