We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Ledbetter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Kate, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Dedication. It takes dedication to be successful. It allows you to focus on what’s important and gives you something to look forward. When you have a goal that you want to achieve, it provides motivation and keeps you going. Taking the time to do the education, learn your work and equipment, implement what you have learned, and staying consistent.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of Kate Ledbetter Photography, LLC. I am based in middle Georgia. I specialize in Maternity | Newborn | Lifestyle photography. I am in the process of starting to do wedding photography.
I got into photography a couple of years ago but didn’t take it serious until the last year. It was something that I would do on the side from my full time job.
I am myself all the time when I photograph. I am your hype girl! I have some clients that will come to the session hesitant, whether lifestyle or maternity, and then leave remembering that they are beautiful!
I am most proud from how I have evolved over the last year. I am constantly doing education to continue learn how to provide and produce better pictures.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Throughout the years I found photographers that I followed and loved their work. Right before I first launched KLP publicly, I reached out to one of the photographers that was local. I just wanted to let her know personally that I would be starting my photography business. The response that was given back to me was shocking. She told me that “photography was competitive and cut throat.” She was not willing to “teach the tricks and trades of the business.” and that I “would understand once I got started into my career.” She even canceled my session that I had booked with her. This was disheartening. To follow someone that you loved their work and to be told this. It almost made me second guess getting into the business. I only kept thinking, if all photographers were liked this, then how would I learn?
But thankfully that was not the case. I have had some wonderful photographers take me in to mentor and learn the way of photography. I have reminded myself resilience is key! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t because YOU CAN!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Photography opens a world of endless possibilities. My goal is to help create beautiful memories! I strive and work towards making that for every client that I come in contact with.
