We were lucky to catch up with Kate Jade recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Many people are unfamiliar with Astarte, the ancient Canaanite goddess of wisdom, love, creativity, and primal energy. All of the titles of my creative endeavors pay homage to an aspect of this great divine feminine figure, especially my metaphysical shop, Astarte’s Temple, and my most recent non-fiction book publication, The Mother of the Gods.
Though many may not have heard of the name Astarte previously, other cultural “versions” of her might be more familiar, such as, Inanna of the Sumerians, Ishtar of the Babylonians, Asherah (Ashtart, Ashtoreth, Astoreth) of the Assyrians, Isis of the Egyptians, Aphrodite (Astarte, Anat) of the Greeks, Yemaya of the Orishas, and Venus of the Romans.
For me, Astarte of Canaan was the name or version of the goddess that I first connected with. Her story and role in history forever shaped how I viewed the mysteries of life, the power of esoteric wisdom, and the connection between the physical, emotional, and spiritual spheres of the human experience. Even just a taste of her wisdom is sweeter than honey, and truly refreshing in contrast to modern mainstream religion.
When it came time for me to truly share the wisdom I’ve gleaned from her with others, I couldn’t escape titling the business in a way that would honor her. Today, Astarte’s Temple offers dozens of free online courses for spiritual practitioners, a metaphysical shop with hand-crafted and ethically-sourced spiritual tools, books to support people on their transformative journeys, and more. All of it is designed to elevate Astarte and the ancient goddesses who have been all-but-erased from society.

Kate, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For as long as I can remember, I had the gift of seeing things spiritually. From deceased loved ones to otherworldly beings and everything in between, they would be as visible to me as any other human or animal present in the waking world. As a child, this brought about a great deal of fear and frustration as I constantly feared being “evil” or was frightened by the unexplainable creatures that seemingly walked among humans. I fought against these gifts and did everything in my power to suppress them.
In my teenage years, I was introduced to esoteric wisdom in a way that I had never encountered before and I knew it was meant for me and would change the course of my life forever. That was my first encounter with the goddess Astarte. Fast forward to 2018, I had a life-threatening double kidney infection and by the time I had made it to the ER the sepsis had already set in. This wild experience resulted in a near-death-experience where I was once again confronted by spiritual beings in my hospital room. Since then, spiritual happenings have occurred in my life at an exponential rate and I began developing my mediumship abilities and advancing further on my mysticism path.
My experiences, gifts, and love for the divine and spiritual realm meant the world to me and I desired more than anything to share them with other people on a similar path. I began offering services, crafting spiritual tools, teach others about esoteric wisdom, blogging on my spiritual experiences, publishing books on spiritual topics, offering online courses, mentoring people, and pouring my soul into telling the story of divinity as best I knew how.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Everything I create is fueled by my spiritual experiences. I believe there are a lot of people in spiritual communities who regurgitate information they’ve read online or e*ploit those who are vulnerable and looking for guidance. So, more than anything, my heart is to provide a safe place for spiritual practitioners to learn, grow, and shop without having to worry about those things.
Many metaphysical shops aren’t committed to hand-crafted goods or ensuring things are genuine and ethically-sourced, so that was one of my first priorities when we first opened.
Additionally, many places that offer courses and resources don’t vet the content or develop it based on first-hand experience, they simply repost things they’ve seen other places, which doesn’t help practitioners who truly desire guidance from those who have experience on a give topic in the spiritual space.
The people who enroll in courses through Astarte’s Temple or purchase from the shop know that I won’t post about a topic unless it is something I firmly believe in, have thoroughly researched and tested for myself, and have worked through how to practice the ritual or spiritual working in a manner that is safe. And I won’t sell products that aren’t good quality, hand-crafted, or ethically sourced.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn everything in my life. I had to unlearn religion. I had to unlearn hiding my authentic self. I had to unlearn people pleasing. And everything in between. This spiritual path is not for the faint of heart, because practically every day I come across things in my life that I need to unlearn, release, process, heal from, or the like. It isn’t easy—but people who can accept that there’s a lot to unlearn and relearn relating to life, spirituality, and the universe are already that much close to walking in alignment with their true purpose and higher self.
