We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Alright, Kate thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
As we most things it started with covid and lock down and deciding I had a lot of time on my hands. I was at a rut in life, late 30s etc unsure if I wanted children and then it got decided for me, I got told at 38 I was in the peri menopausal stage of my life! After a lot of tests I was told it was highly unlikely I would ever naturally have a child and if I did an egg donor was the only way.
I had never heard of the peri menopause… not another stage for us all to go through! So I invested in a Health Coach and that’s when I realized I wanted to help other women and educate them on what’s coming up. Its not just them its their friends, families and partners too.
I also developed a passion for helping people who are struggling and wanting to lead a more happy healthier life style. So I decided to retrain and become a Health Coach and a Mindfulness Meditation Instructor.
I researched courses and asked a lot of people for course recommendations. I loved the course, i could work it around my other job and to suit my lifestyle.
Once qualified you are then sent out in to the world BUT customers do not just turn up on a plate, people are very negative, friends do not support you and there isnt enough education as to how to run a business,
I invested in a business coach which I highly recommend but be careful research research research as there are so many people out there saying ‘pay me £1k and I can tell you how to have £30K months’!!! there is not magic overnight income, it takes hard hard work and graft and be prepared for the knockbacks too. I would recommend a few sessions but don’t spend thousands and go on recommendations from people you know.
You have to have a positive attitude and be prepared to fail and for people to want everything for free.
Don’t give up your day job but follow your dreams.
Since training I have joined a local networking group and we support each other, I have regular photos taken to keep my website and socials updated.
Don’t over think posting on social media, do what you feel comfortable with. Also get in with local businesses, people and brands.
Kate , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At happy healthy you – your way I offer private 121 sessions to help and support women become who they desire to be in life. I am their cheerleader so they can lead their best life.
I offer wellness at work days where companies invite me in and I host open floor sessions about menopause, diet, gut health, over all health and offer 121 coaching. I also host team meetings where I teach mindfulness meditation. They can also buy mindfulness meditation sessions from my website.
I absolutely love the feed back I get from people they make it all worth while to know I have made a difference to their life.
I also teach 1 weekend a month at Champneys too.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would 100% choose the same profession. I would tell myself to have more faith and trust in myself. I would also say not to get involved in office politics easier said than done.
When working with people ask how they would like to work together, this may sound odd but I had one colleague who liked me to put every stage of the process in her diary, whilst I found this frustrating to do I found it actually really worked and shows accountability.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Working with others and learn to take criticism, joining my local business networking group has worked really well for me and you can pick each other up when feeling down too as you have a lot of ups and downs running your own business
