Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kate Asire . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kate, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I have always known that I would pursue a creative path. My parents raised me and my siblings to follow our interests and passions and created an amazing home environment that supported and fostered those ideas. As I child I was always elbow deep into a project from learning how to do ribbon embroidery to planting a cutting garden to taking art and music lessons and performing in speech and drama camps. As an adult I honestly didn’t consider any other career fields, I graduated with a fine arts degree in painting and drawing and have worked in creative jobs ever since. Starting my own business was the natural progression for me to continue my lifelong love of learning and creating.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My love of flowers started at a very young age playing in my mother’s gardens on our family farm and my passion for hospitality and service, as well as a healthy work ethic, was the natural result of the care and attention my parents displayed while hosting our family and friends. Gatherings and celebrations hold a dear place in my heart.
When I was in college I decided I wanted to work with flowers and design flowers for weddings and events. I got a job at a traditional flower shop and worked my way up from sweeping the floors and answering the phone to running the wedding side of the business. After a couple of years at the shop, I left to start my own company. While I learned many valuable skills working for another business, I wanted to design weddings with more creative freedom as well as an emphasis on individuality and client service.
A wedding is a tremendously emotional and momentous life event and my belief is that the event should be celebrated with intention, beauty and meaning.
We offer our clients bespoke florals that are designed for them based on their memories and history. Whether it is the scent of gardenias that takes a bride back to her Grandmother’s garden, or the feeling of an overgrown veranda porch that is recreated in a reception space, each floral design plan is given care, attention to detail and deep thought.
Nothing makes me more happy than seeing families come together in celebration, in my own personal life with my family and in the lives of my clients.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Recently while working on goals for the upcoming year I was digging into the why of my business and was reflecting on how important sustainability is for my work. For me being sustainable goes far beyond my environmental impact as a business and is actually more focused on the health and longevity of my life and the lives of my employees in all aspects of that work. First and foremost the business and my creative journey has to support the life that I want, which includes time for my family, for my friends and for myself. I’m passionate about creating employment for the amazing network of freelance designers that I work with that supports them with a comfortable lifestyle and allows us all to have some level of the illusive work life balance. The events industry is very intense and we all work extremely hard to create truly magical celebrations for our clients. I’m passionate about pushing the industry to provide a better quality of life to the magicians behind the curtain.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me it is incredibly fulfilling to earn a living doing a job that allows me to express myself and pushes me creatively but also stretches my skills in management, logistics and organization. Nothing is more rewarding than happy clients but when I know I have done a good job, it makes the feeling all the better.
