We caught up with the brilliant and insightful KaTasha Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
KaTasha, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I absolutely wish I had started my business sooner. The level of creativity and self-discovery I’ve experienced as an entrepreneur has been nothing short of outrageous, in the best way possible. It’s fascinating because I never even considered being an entrepreneur until I became one. My focus had always been on climbing the corporate ladder, and I was excelling at it. I achieved the role of Vice President a full decade ahead of my timeline, which I thought was the pinnacle of success at the time.
When I started Archer Agency, I was at a crossroads. I was burnt out, defeated, and second-guessing myself, not just as a leader, but as a person. I had spent so much time chasing the “right” goals and doing everything by the book, but I realized that none of the options in front of me aligned with my vision for the future. That’s when it clicked: instead of trying to fit into someone else’s mold, I could build my own table.
If I had started earlier, I believe I would have avoided some of the emotional and mental burnout that came with years of pushing against systems and structures that didn’t truly fulfill me. I would have had more time to grow into the creative and innovative leader I’ve become today. That said, I also recognize that every step of my journey, the wins, the setbacks, and even the burnout, gave me the tools and resilience to be successful now.
Looking back, starting Archer Agency has been one of the most empowering decisions of my life. It allowed me to channel my skills, experience, and passion into something that not only helps others but also fulfills me in ways I never imagined. While I don’t regret the timing because it brought me here, there’s a part of me that can’t help but wonder what might have been if I had taken this leap of faith sooner.
KaTasha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m KaTasha Thomas, MBA, a Louisiana native and Army veteran who has always been passionate about growth, whether it’s personal, professional, or organizational. My journey to entrepreneurship started after nearly two decades in mental health, social services, and corporate leadership. I’ve climbed the corporate ladder, led multi-million-dollar projects, scaled organizations across the region, and worked extensively in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors. But despite these accomplishments, I reached a point where I felt unfulfilled, burnt out, and disconnected from my purpose. That’s when I decided it was time to create something of my own, something that aligned with my values and vision and so, Archer Agency was born.
Before venturing into business development and consulting, my career was deeply rooted in mental health and program management. I started as a clinician and later transitioned to leading complex mental health programs, sitting on advisory boards, and mentoring other professionals. This foundation taught me the importance of listening, understanding people’s challenges, and finding solutions tailored to their needs. My time in the Army also played a pivotal role in shaping my leadership style and resilience, as it taught me how to thrive in demanding environments and build strong, effective teams.
When I transitioned into corporate leadership, I discovered my love for operations, strategy, and building sustainable growth models. As a Vice President, I helped secure deals in the hundreds of millions, scaled companies regionally, and worked to improve efficiency while maintaining a focus on people. Yet, the more I accomplished, the more I realized that I wanted to use my skills to help others achieve their own dreams, not just corporate objectives.
Archer Agency is all about empowering businesses and individuals to achieve meaningful growth. I work with startups, established companies, and nonprofits to streamline operations, improve organizational health, and create strategies for sustainable success. For individuals, I offer professional development, career coaching, and leadership training to help them align their passions with their careers.
Some of the services I provide include:
Professional Development: Coaching tailored to help individuals navigate career transitions, develop leadership skills, and build personal brands.
Start-Up Success Accelerator: Guiding new businesses through the critical early stages to establish a solid foundation and scalable operations.
Business Strategy & Operational Efficiency: Helping organizations optimize their processes, define key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement strategies for growth.
Non-Profit Growth & Impact: Supporting nonprofits in scaling their operations and enhancing their ability to make a difference.
Additionally, I’ve developed a series of interactive workbooks, tools, and resources such as the Achievement Tracker, Interview Prep Workbook, and Business Playbook. I design tools to empower clients with actionable insights and strategies.
What truly sets me apart is my holistic approach. I focus not just on achieving goals but on ensuring clients are equipped with the tools and confidence to sustain their success independently. My background, from mental health to corporate leadership, gives me a unique ability to see the bigger picture while addressing individual and organizational needs.
I’m also deeply invested in building authentic connections and creating a lasting impact. My clients often describe me as friendly, welcoming, and a perfectionist who genuinely cares about delivering value. I’m not just here to offer services; I’m here to help others create the lives and businesses they’ve envisioned.
I’m incredibly proud of the transformations I’ve witnessed in my clients. Whether it’s a business owner who finally feels in control of their operations or an individual who lands their dream job after months of coaching, those wins mean everything to me. I’m also proud of the work I’ve done to empower underrepresented groups whether through mentorship programs, board service, or community initiatives.
At Archer Agency, it’s not just about achieving success; it’s about creating a life and career that truly aligns with who you are. I’m here to listen, guide, and help you build something extraordinary. Whether you’re an individual looking to take the next step in your career or an organization ready to scale and make a bigger impact, I’m here to help you get there, one step at a time.
My mission is to ensure you walk away not just with results but with the confidence and tools to sustain them long-term.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn is the idea that perfection equals success. For years, I was the person who wouldn’t submit a project until it was polished to the point of exhaustion. My work ethic earned me respect, but it also created overwhelming pressure that left me feeling like I could never measure up, even to my own standards. I believed every detail had to be flawless or it wasn’t good enough.
When I started Archer Agency, I realized that perfectionism wasn’t about the quality of my work. It was about how I viewed my worth. I had always delivered exceptional results, but the constant need to over-prepare or second-guess myself was holding me back. In business, clients look to you for expertise, not hesitation. I had to unlearn the idea that being the best meant doing everything alone or holding myself to impossible standards.
This lesson taught me the value of trusting my expertise and leaning into what I know I bring to the table. It wasn’t about lowering the bar but about redefining what success looked like. Success became about delivering excellent results while embracing adaptability and trusting my instincts. Unlearning perfectionism wasn’t easy. It meant being okay with learning as I go and understanding that growth happens through action, not just preparation. Once I let go of that weight, everything shifted. I became more creative, more confident, and more connected with my clients because they saw me as approachable and authentic, not as someone striving to be untouchable.
This lesson transformed how I approach my work and how I live my life. It’s not about doing everything flawlessly. It’s about showing up, delivering value, and growing with each step. That’s the message I share with my clients because that is where the real magic happens, when you let go of perfection and embrace what is possible.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A few key resources have had a profound impact on how I approach leadership, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Here are four that stand out:
“Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown
Seeing Brené Brown live at a conference was a transformative experience. Her insights on vulnerability and courage in leadership reminded me that authenticity is one of the most powerful tools a leader can have. This book helped me realize that true leadership comes from showing up as your whole self and creating spaces where others feel safe to do the same. These principles are at the core of how I lead and coach others.
“Atomic Habits” by James Clear
This book is a game-changer for understanding how small, consistent changes can create massive impact. It reinforced my belief that success is not about overnight transformations but about building systems that support long-term progress. I frequently draw on the concepts from this book when helping clients develop strategies to achieve their goals.
“Start With Why” by Simon Sinek
Simon Sinek’s book and TED Talk have been pivotal in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset. They helped me clarify my purpose and align my work with my “why.” This approach drives my business and inspires the way I help clients identify their own purpose and align it with their strategies for success.
“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey
This timeless resource has had a lasting impact on how I think about productivity, decision-making, and personal growth. Covey’s focus on being proactive, prioritizing what matters most, and maintaining balance has guided my work as a leader and a coach. I often recommend this book to clients looking for foundational principles that can elevate both their personal and professional lives.
These resources have shaped my philosophy by emphasizing authenticity, intentionality, and purpose-driven action. They continue to influence the way I show up for my clients and in my business every day.
