We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katana Jay Immortal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katana Jay below.
Katana Jay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving my home state of New Jersey to Focus on my carrier and my health was the greatest thing I could have ever done. Having not one soul in Atlanta it forced me to focus on myself as a person and as a creative. Being completely on my own with just my service dog I networked and got myself to a point where I had a booking almost everyday. Acting with YouTube show “Atlantas ugly” directed by Reality of Black Royal Family, going from just a cameo to becoming a regular character, modeling for many publishing’s, and contests such as “Inked Magazine Cover Girl”. Building up confidence to begin painting and doing digital Art also led me to have my own vendor tables in art shows with a well known talented artist E Hung and perform at his “Sex Party Atl” events. Also acted as leading Lady for a music video with rapper B.A Warrior as well and appeared on Bravo TV network’s “BlindDate”. I have always been an all around creative and taking this risk afforded me so many opportunities I went from being the girl who everyone thought I was going to always need family or someone around due to my health to becoming 100% independent. Finally tapping into my ancestors and roots from the Caribbean island Puerto Rico I began my Spiritual Card readings focusing on Clarification and Guidance also making spiritual Jewelry inspired by Puerto Rico’s African roots. Finally I started my own Podcast on YouTube “Kuttin up with Katana Jay” where I interview and spend time with all kinds of creatives. In the long run there have been many struggles along the way but I refused to let my chronic illnesses define me. Now I have met my life partner, had a baby and am now in Las Vegas, Nevada redefining myself as a person, partner and mother. Being a family and career woman has been my greatest risk and my greatest achievement thus far in my life. Still learning and still growing but never giving up. My greatest chapter has yet to be written because I will always strive for more.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Katana Jay Immortal is an overall creative who focuses on Acting/modeling as well as Digital Art and hand crafted art, Spiritual Advisory in Clarification and Guidance, and a Podcast YouTube channel “Kuttin up with Katana Jay” spending time and interviewing many creatives. First starting off in music, creative writing and makeup I always knew I was meant to be a creative in many fashions. Being an overall creative has brought me to many different avenues. What sets me apart from most is that I am, truly passionate about all the things I do, also very willing and open to learn from any and everyone I come across. The biggest thing I want my followers, Fans, and potential clients to know is that I truly give everything I do my all, I strive to make them happy and proud and go above and beyond so that not only do they keep coming back for more services they are likely to forward people my way because I produce or perform well and above expectations.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Many non-creatives or even some creatives starting out for that matter are afraid to jump afraid to take the risk or scared to stand out and be their true selves. It took me a little to break out of my own shell and take off the mask I wore to be apart of normal society. Slowly realizing I could never be truly happy if I wasn’t my true self unapologetically that’s what truly differs one from the rest. Be yourself, don’t worry about naysayers or those who don’t get it, their are plenty that do, trust me… or rather trust yourself.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Always was told to pick one thing and stick to it but as a person and a personality I realized I had many layers to me, many avenues I wanted to touch. One day I decided why can’t I do it all? Why do I have to stick to one thing when they all tie into each other. I just made sure to be efficient in all things individually and they all came together.
