We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kat Dion. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kat below.
Kat, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
In 2022, I launched my inaugural French project, the “Miroir” EP, a culmination of my desire to express through the beauty of the French language. As a proud French-Canadian, I felt it essential to honor my native tongue. In 2020, an incredible opportunity emerged as I signed with my debut record label and met music producer Louis Coté. With a few French demos already in my pockets, our collaboration took form, with the help of a grant from Musicaction Canada, a foundation championing Canadian French-speaking artists. With the grant we were able to make a high quality EP, that I am most proud of in my music career, so far.
I learned so much during this creative time about myself, love and about the craft of music. I believe this is the defining beginning of my actual professional career, it definitely pushed my craft to the next level.
The EP is made of 4 songs, “Miroir”, “Les Balancoires”, “Dans tes bras” and “Vulnérabilité”. It’s the circle of love. “Miroir” is a song about self-love, about giving up on the unrequited love of someone else and focusing on loving yourself the way you need it. Secondly, “Les Balancoires” is about that stage after a relationship, when all of the resentment and anger from that relationship comes out, it’s this bittersweet feeling of anger & sadness before letting go. “Dans tes bras” is wanting deeply to rekindle this lost love but deep down fully knowing it will never be the same again. Finally, “Vulnérabilité” is about falling in love again after being hurt. It’s an exciting, yet scary feeling, it makes you feel vulnerable.

Kat, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My stage name is Kat Dion, I’m a singer, songwriter, and producer originally from Québec, Canada. I started my music career at 19 with my first song, “Tarantino.” Since then, I’ve worked on my own projects and collaborated with awesome artists. I’m all about synth-pop and 80’s music – that’s where I find my inspiration.
As a kid, I was always interested in pursuing a music career. Although, I consider my childhood and teenage years as formative years as I definitely was not ready for a professional career back then. It’s during those years that I learned how to dance, sing, act and songwrite
Gratefully, the internet gave me a way to share my art with the world. I started by posting singing videos on Instagram, social media, and YouTube. Then, I even started putting my original songs out there. I formed a band and did some gigs, and that caught the attention of music producers who wanted to work on my music. One thing led to another, and in 2020, I got signed by my first record label.
I’m always on the lookout for fellow artists and music pros to collaborate with, especially on songwriting. It’s what I enjoy most, and working with other creative people is a blast.
What makes me unique is my sound and my voice – I pour my heart into my writing.
Among my accomplishments, I’m really proud of my EP “Miroir.” It’s my favorite work so far, but I’m not stopping there. Right now, I’m working on a new English project that I think will be even better. Stay tuned!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have many many goals when it comes to my music career. I’d love to make a living with music and tour the world but I my biggest goal, my mission driving my creative journey is to be able to help other artists like me get started in the industry. I dream of one day owning a recording studio and production company to help out other emerging artists get their art out there. I believe that music is an incredibly community driven field and it’s important to nurture that. Collaboration & help to me are some of the most rewarding aspects of this industry. If it wasn’t for the very first people who believed in me, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today, so it’s extremely important to me that I do the same.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I mentioned in the last question that collaboration and helping other artists are to me some of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist. Although, I do have to admit that there’s nothing like the feeling of finally releasing a project after a long period of hard work and seeing what comes out of it. Hearing about fans, getting new opportunities & seeing their reactions is priceless no matter how big your fanbase is. It’s always a surprise, you just can’t fully predict what will happen and it’s such a cool feeling. It’s a journey with many up’s and down’s but to be able to share your work & gifting it to the world is amazingly rewarding.
