We recently connected with Kassy Lemus and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kassy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
When I first started my career, I aimed to be a fashion color specialist. But as I grew from being a beauty school grad, to an assistant, to a professional, I started taking on more brunette clientele. My mission is to create a safe space for my clients who are naturally dark, who have course, thick, long, textured hair, and help them fall in love with what they were born with.
I hope my legacy will be that I helped create an impact on our industry. To help educate professionals feel confident working with multiple hair types, darker colors, and understanding the how’s and why’s behind creating brunette balayages.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Kassy and I am a hairstylist that specializes in brunette balayage in Austin Texas! I first took an interest in the hair world when I was a senior in high school and pursued schools in my early 20’s. I worked hard in school and jumped straight to an apprenticeship. During my time as an assistant/apprentice, I learned all the techniques and color theory I know today. Once I finished, I started taking clients in 2019 and began building my clientele. In 2020, I started my own business as an independent suite renter. I will be celebrating 2 years of being independent 10/22!
Throughout my time behind the chair I have been nominated twice for Behind the Chair’s One Shot Awards, interviewed for Beauty Launchpad, I’m an ambassador for Masters of Balayage, and an Educator for Mane Culture.
My goals for the next few years is to begin educating other professionals about my specialization in brunette balayage!
I’m most proud of the fast growth I’ve accomplished as a young stylist and I continue to pursue my ambitions for this industry!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started to build my presence by posting consistent pictures of the clientele I wanted to bring in. After finding my niche it became easier to target the audience I wanted. As I continue to grow as a stylist, I find new ways to keep up with social media trends and new avenues to connect with my target audience. Soon I will be transitioning to targeting other professionals for educational purposes.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I don’t have one specific story, but I can say I like to attend multiple events, gatherings, and classes to network as well as further my education/craft. Networking is so important to achieve growth in this industry. It’s helped lead me to where I am now so early in my career.
