We recently connected with Kassie Meiler and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
This question is always a blast to answer when asked! Four and a half years ago, I wrote down a list of all possible names for my social media agency. GOAT Social Media stuck out to me, and I felt drawn to it. The GOAT acronym stands for “Greatest of All Time,” and I figured, who doesn’t want to be the best or the greatest?
The personality of a goat as a mascot could not have fit better. Goats are social creatures. They are normally found in groups, and it is recommended that they are not kept isolated. Isolation can cause a goat to feel stressed and unwell. They are also brilliant and curious animals. They communicate well within their groups, establish a hierarchy, and can even be loud when necessary! I felt the goat was a perfect, friendly fit for my business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I have always felt drawn to communications and marketing. As a child, I read billboards, sang jingles, and paid attention to every advertisement. I also grew up where technology and social networks were blooming. I had to have the first iPod, the first Apple Watch, and even begged my mother to let me create a MySpace account when I was entirely way too young for one. In high school, I was the Webmaster for my Drama Club and ran the website and social media accounts in high school. I made Facebook events and shared show flyers on Instagram before it was the norm. Therefore, it was a natural fit for me to pursue social media management and advertising.
I am a champion for the underdog. When I started my business in 2017, I realized many local businesses and smaller companies couldn’t afford giant marketing agencies and contracts. Yet, they still wanted to be successful on the internet. I started with these “mom and pop businesses” and community referrals to build my business and work on my business model. I began to enjoy the grassroots effort and became passionate about business in South Florida.
Fast forward almost five years, and my LLC, GOAT Social Media, continues to focus on social media and social media only. Anything to do with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok, and Snapchat is suitable in my wheelhouse. I continue to remain knowledgeable in other marketing facets, such as PPC, SEO, email, and web design, as I believe it’s essential to work together with other departments and teams for a client to thrive. Success does not happen in a vacuum.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The pandemic shutdown is when I feel like many people had to pivot, and my own business was not the exception. Before March 2020, most of my clients were in the hospitality industry. When travel shut down, social media was one of the first things to go. I went from having a nice size client portfolio to my clients dwindling, canceling, or pausing from fear and a loss of funds. I took notice, read a lot of books, and decided to pursue and attract more clients in various industries, especially the ones thriving in a COVID world. I now have clients in a variety of industries, from B2B software to eCommerce, and a theatre company.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Most of my client’s social media packages and plans include a monthly meeting, whether virtual or in-person. In between those meetings, I am incredibly transparent via emails and content calendars. I empower my clients with the tools to see what we are doing behind the scenes, and I submit monthly analytics reports to track progress and success. Once clients understand the process, it fosters a great relationship, and loyalty lies in the proof. When there is progress documented, it keeps everyone satisfied.
