Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kassandra Companioni. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kassandra, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Yes. Yes. Yes! I feel as a business owner I couldn’t be happier. Making my own schedule, having the advantage to rebrand my business whenever I feel fit or having the flexibility to take clients whenever I want. I sometimes wonder what my life would be having a regular job and it really makes me appreciate and love being a business owner even more because having to rely on having to report to someone whenever I need to take time off or whenever I need a mental health day, it would complicate so many of the things I have going on in my life personally.
Kassandra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am KWK also known as Kreatewithkaay. I am a hairstylist of 4 years. I got into the hair industry about 6 years ago when I decided I wanted to take the leap and go into cosmetology school and see if it is something I love. Being able to express myself through my art with my clients heads everyday is really what makes me love my job so much more daily. Whenever I have a client sit in my chair I always express to them that they can open up to me about their concerns and or issues with their hair and being able to concur those issues with my clients is really what sets me apart from other hair stylists. I make sure my client leaves not only feeling confident but in love with their hair and the art I created. I am most proud of myself and my business. How Kreatewithkaay started as an instagram account to now it not just being my instagram but also my business where I have returning clients, new clients, new followers, other stylists in my hometown or in another state knowing who I am and being able to bond over something as important as making someone feel beautiful.
How did you build your audience on social media?
How I built the audience I have on social media is by being present and being raw with my audience. Something I’ve learned through out this process is that people love authenticity and real life. Being consistent even when I don’t feel like being behind the camera really has helped me understand that with social media comes work and discipline and that’s really how I grew my audience quickly. My advice for those starting a social media presence is push through and be consistent, even when you really don’t want to just continue to push through because from one day to the next things will grow.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being honest. Having to tell a client no to lightening services breaks my heart but being real with a client is what they love most. That I won’t just take the money they are offering, they want the professional to be open and honest to what they need not what they may want. Being honest in my career really has built my reputation into such a positive one because all clients want is the truth and they love that I give that to them.
