We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kasondra Billups. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kasondra below.
Kasondra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Incorporating practical financial literacy into the education system is crucial. I believe students should be equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions about money, whether pursuing higher education or entrepreneurial ventures. Personally, I’ve seen friends struggle post-graduation because they lacked financial planning skills. Introducing comprehensive classes on money management and promoting healthier lifestyle choices could empower students to navigate adulthood more successfully. If I had this is my curriculum when I was growing up I’d be a dangerous human being.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Le Cordon Bleu graduate and a nutritional chef with a passion for promoting holistic well-being through mindful eating. Im orginally from Georgia, and I’ve been in Los Angeles for 2 and a half years. My journey into this industry was deeply personal, stemming from my own health challenges—fibroids, depression, inflammation and anxiety. Recognizing the transformative power of a healthier diet, I decided to dedicate myself to creating a lifestyle, not just a diet change.
My focus is on providing affordable, medically tailored meals that address specific health concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and anxiety. I bridge the gap by offering meal plans for both those struggling with existing diseases and those seeking preventive measures. What sets me apart is not only the quality of my meals but also their affordability, making nutritionally sound choices accessible to a wider audience.
I take pride in my decision to move to Los Angeles, where I’ve experienced tremendous personal and professional growth. What I’m most proud of is that I’ve embraced my purpose to heal through food. My dedication to my brand is fueled by the desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives, one plate at a time.
For potential clients and followers, I want them to know that I am unwaveringly committed to my brand and the mission of healing through nutrition. My discipline is anchored in understanding my “why”: to help people while achieving financial stability. I believe in the power of transforming lives and achieving financial freedom simultaneously.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In my journey here in Los Angeles, I encountered unforeseen challenges that demanded unwavering resilience. Despite the initial promises and opportunities that brought me to this city, circumstances didn’t unfold as expected. Consequently, I found myself navigating the complexities of survival in a financially demanding environment, having relocated my family from a more comfortable and affordable setting.
The journey to establish my business and make a mark in LA was marked by financial hardships. While assistance was available initially, the road remained arduous. Complicating matters, my family and I underwent a period of separation, disrupting the collaborative dynamic that was integral to my business. Adapting to this shift, I had to tap into my inner resources to sustain both personally and professionally.
Throughout this challenging period, I maintained a steadfast belief in my vision and product. Despite setbacks, including encounters with law enforcement and health department interventions during attempts to sell and promote my culinary creations, I persevered. Each setback became an opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to the quality and value of what I offer. Despite the difficulties, I continue to push forward, acknowledging the support I’ve received from higher forces while recognizing the resilience that propels me forward in pursuit of my business goals.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My management and entrepreneurial philosophy have been profoundly influenced by diverse resources. “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill has been a cornerstone, guiding my decision-making, cultivating a resilient mindset, and shaping my strategic approach to challenges.
“Rich Dad, Poor Dad” has been instrumental in instilling financial literacy and offering strategic insights into wealth-building—an invaluable resource in shaping my approach to money management and entrepreneurship.
Beyond literature, I’ve embraced the wealth of knowledge available on YouTube, colloquially known as “YouTube University.” Here, influencers provide diverse perspectives and positive feedback, serving as an accessible source for information and guidance on various topics.
Crucially, my family stands as a central pillar in shaping my management approach. Their needs and wants are paramount in decision-making.
Moreover, I’ve cultivated a practice of listening to my higher self—an intuitive guide that influences how I navigate and interact with others. This internal compass, akin to a sixth sense, informs my approach to handling people and situations within the entrepreneurial landscape.
