We recently connected with Kason Staples and have shared our conversation below.
Kason, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
As a male content creator, I’ve been misunderstood for a long time. People would see what I post, the humor, the creativity, the energy—but they didn’t always take the time to understand the person behind the content. They judged the surface without knowing the story, the grind, or the real feelings behind it all. That constant misunderstanding started to get to me. It made me feel like I wasn’t being seen for who I truly am, like people were so quick to assume without ever trying to connect. Over time, that pressure and disconnect led me to take a break—not just from content, but from social life in general. I needed space to figure myself out, to find peace away from opinions and expectations. During that time, I really focused on self-awareness, and it changed everything. I started looking at myself beyond the camera and the likes, and I learned to embrace who I am at the core. I stopped trying to please everyone and started creating for me. Once I came back, I felt stronger, more intentional, and more connected to my purpose than ever before. Now, every piece of content I post reflects that growth. I put my heart into everything I create, and it feels good to be doing what I love again—not for validation, but because it’s part of who I am. Content creation is my passion, my therapy, my way of expressing everything I couldn’t always say out loud. And now that I’m back, I’m not holding back.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who may not be familiar with me, my name is Kason Jamal, also known online as @thekasonjamal. I’m a content creator with a deep love for storytelling, lifestyle, comedy, and capturing real moments in a way that connects with people. I got into content creation out of pure curiosity and passion—I’ve always had a creative mind and a desire to express myself in ways that feel authentic. What started as just sharing little pieces of my life online quickly grew into a platform where I could inspire, entertain, and uplift others through my unique point of view. To anyone discovering me or my work for the first time, I want you to know that everything I do is rooted in passion and intention. My brand is about being unapologetically yourself, embracing your path, and finding confidence through creativity. Whether you’re watching my videos, following my journey, or collaborating with me, just know you’re supporting someone who truly loves what they do and is only just getting started.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely. If there’s one thing I wish I knew earlier in my creative journey, it’s how powerful and helpful tools like Canva and CapCut are. In the beginning, I was doing everything the hard way—trying to edit with basic apps, struggling to make my content look polished, and spending way too much time trying to figure out things on my own. I didn’t realize there were free, beginner-friendly platforms out there that could make the creative process so much smoother.
Canva would’ve saved me so much time when it came to designing thumbnails, social media posts, and branding visuals. It’s simple to use but still allows you to create high-quality, professional-looking content that stands out. And CapCut? Man, I really wish I had that in my toolbox from day one. It’s crazy how much you can do on there with video editing—from effects to transitions to clean cuts—and it makes storytelling so much easier and more creative. Looking back, knowing about those tools earlier could’ve helped me grow even faster, but I’m grateful I found them when I did because they’ve elevated the way I create and present my work today. If you’re just starting out, don’t sleep on the resources out there. They can really take your vision to the next level without making the process feel overwhelming.
How did you build your audience on social media?
If I had any advice for someone just starting out, it would be this: stay consistent, stay true to yourself, and don’t get discouraged by slow progress. Learn the platforms, understand your audience, but don’t let the numbers define your value. Also—use the right tools early on. I wish I had known more about Canva and CapCut when I first started, because they’ve made a huge difference in how I create and present my content. Lastly, remember that building a social media presence isn’t just about going viral—it’s about building trust, building a community, and showing people who you are. If you stay focused and passionate, the right people will find you.
