Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kasie Weinandt . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kasie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I’m really happy as an artist and creative! I moved to California to open up the gates and be able to create more. Being an artist or creative is a lifestyle. Its not a 9 to 5 job. Your whole life revolves around doing what you love everyday and sharing that with other people. I feel fortunate to be able to get up and share that joy everyday, whether it’s cut, coloring, highlighting, and styling at Krimson hair studio in Burbank or goings-on set and working as a hair and makeup artist or being at home and sculpting Marvel next super heroe mask or traveling around California and appreciating all the beautiful things and views.
Kasie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So I started in this industry as a teenager in the Midwest at a salon and spa and beauty supply store called Beauty Brands. I was a customer service representative who sold product and tools. There was a big salon in the back so I got to know products/tools for hair and makeup quickly. I loved working there and being around salon management and the other salon service providers. It gave me a lot of self worth. I moved up to salon coordinator and help organize clients and stylist schedules and then to management where I learned the business better and open and closed the store. By that time I was already in cosmetology school and when I graduated I started my own clientele in KCMO and got involved in the fashion and editorial scence for a while and developed more with a company called Davines. Now I live in California and provide Hair and Makeup service for my clients including, cuts, color, texture, styling, editorial, bridal,fx,sfx, makeup, TV and film work. I like to stay busy and creative. I’m an licensed educator as well and work with company called Jack Winn Pro for hair as an educator. I also use a lot of Makeup Designory Products for set Makeup. Where I did my master Makeup artistry program. They help me keep clients hair super health and strong and looking good on camera which seem to be a lot of the problems I’m trying to solve for people. I love the technology Jack uses in his products to combat wear and tear on your hair with pharmaceuticalgrade botanicals, It’s essential to good hair and self care and really makes a difference in the look which makes everything look better. I value teamwork, genuiness, and honesty in this industry and am always growing my network and would love to speak with you about an upcoming project.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Well there are plenty! A lot of people will tell you your are not good enough or you didn’t perform well enough or you weren’t easy enough to work with. There have been people along my path who pop up here and there and tell me from time to time those things. Its a good opportunity to remind yourself that Rome wasn’t built in a day. These are the times to grow, put the time in and find the solution or answer for yourself. Love what you do. Everyone has a role to play and you can’t take everything personally!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can support the artist and creative ecosystem better by less judgment, giving more love and loyalty. Work with your artist/creative be honest, give yourself a chance to hit your goals with someone. Don’t give up! Appreciate the process.
