We recently connected with Kashmira Tare and have shared our conversation below.
Kashmira, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
Doing what you love makes you happy, but selling or giving away your very first artwork brings a very different satisfaction and smile to your face. I started drawing and painting at age of 5. The biggest motivation and reason behind recognizing my talent was my mother, and building something out of it was only possible because of my better half. This is how “Starry Art” was born amid Covid in 2021. Getting your first order or your first follower is one of the toughest milestones. Many artists and creators give up right here. From gaining followers on Instagram to selling your first artwork is very difficult. A lot of people fail to go through the process because this process of growing as an artist or creator is very slow and requires uniform practice.
My first sold pot was a beautiful lemon design planter which is still among one of the favorites and most ordered pots. My husband insisted to post my created art on social media platforms as well on apps such as “Nextdoor”. And that’s how I earned my first client literally next door she loved it and bought it right away. The satisfaction and happiness of selling the first creative is a truly different and absolute joy.
Starry Art is growing and I am painting new planters and creating new designs regularly.
Kashmira, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From a very young age, I have been always attracted to and invested in everything related to art. Art allows me to express my feeling through creative designs and paintings. Ever since high school, I knew I would pursue art related major where I could use my artistic abilities and ideas. My father was in Software development which gave me exposure to learning coding at a very young age, and I developed an interest in Software Development. Still, the artist inside me was alive and I wanted to combine my artistic and technical abilities and build a career path out of it. I never found a profession that would combine two different careers and would give me a chance to be free and eccentric. So, I chose to keep my profession and passion separate. Currently, I am working as a full-time Software Engineer in California. At the beginning of the pandemic, I saw an opportunity to start my small venture to promote gardening by selling my planters with out-of-box designs. The moment I sold my first planter, I knew I never wanted to stop.
I am selling planters in various sizes and designs. Each design is unique and represents something that brings me a sense of tranquility. The first pot I painted was the Random Limone. I have a different beautiful lemon and clementine tree in my backyard, and that is the inspiration behind this pot and surface pattern design. I mean, how zesty is that?
I am very proud that I can perfectly balance both Starry Art and my full-time job. Painting that blank pot with something unique and colorful always amazes me. I believe being consistent is very important to build up your social media and fan following. My advice to anyone who is starting to build a creative social media presence is that knowing your niche is very essential and making sure to focus on quality content that your audience is expecting.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to paint out my ideas and express my creativity to the world is the most rewarding thing for me. Earning money from selling your artwork is great but that is not rewarding. My biggest reward in creating art comes when a client has a genuine emotional response to my art. That’s what keeps me motivated as an artist.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to keep doing what I love to do and continue to express my creativity and ideas through painting planters. For me, art is a way to express my emotions and feelings whether it’s a feeling of joy, anger, sorrow, or something else. I believe in creating unique designs and art that take me away from my daily stress and posting my art to my creative outlet. I designed and painted many planters, but I still feel that magical moment when I complete painting my planter. I highly recommend following your creative heart because that will help your soul to be happy and healthy.
