We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kashish Sachdeva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kashish below.
Hi Kashish, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I’m hoping to build revolves around speaking up for those who can’t and uplifting suppressed voices. I started my organization, Currently Informed, to implement that value into action. I’m hoping to be remembered for being driven, determined, and passionate about making a difference in the world after I’m gone. Ever since I was younger, I’ve wanted to make a change, to leave a tangible impact – something to help others and that will be my legacy. As I’m leading Currently Informed, I’m getting one step closer to building this legacy.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A little bit about me is, I’m a huge planner and writer, and my story with Currently Informed began to take off after the overruling of Roe v. Wade. I started Currently Informed some weeks before this overruling, and I remember when I found out that women were not being given reproductive rights, I was beyond frustrated and wanted to do something about it. I initiated the Judiciary Act of 2021 Petition to increase the size of the Supreme Court and prevent future rulings such as this and ended up discussing it with Congresswoman Katie Porter. This was when our organization began to gain support across the nation, and I could not be prouder. What set us apart most was the passion my members and I brought towards fighting for social justice.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The particular goal or mission driving my creative journey is helping others, as cliché as it may sound. It’s truly heartbreaking to witness how some are discriminated against on the basis of their race, gender, or any other form of identity. It’s wrong and immoral, and I’m determined to give them a platform to share those experiences, because that’s the most human thing of all – feeling for others, and using that empathy to look out for each other.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Some resources I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey would be the impact of Google Forms in showing communal support. For example, it’s much easier to propose a bill when you have data to back how many people are supporting it. Currently, we are in the midst of proposing two bills – regarding media literacy and mental health reform, and both of these bills included the process of sending the google forms to students, youth, adults, teachers, anyone part of our society to get their input into why we need change. One of my surveys had the question, “Do you think schools do enough to address media literacy” and 100% of the responses were, “No.” This shows the need for immediate attention.
