We recently connected with Kash Hovey and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kash thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
In life nothing is certain. There are always dilemmas that will come up even when things are going well. When I started high school and began working professionally in the industry, I was put in some situations that forced me to grow up fast. Looking back I carried a lot of baggage emotionally and didn’t have many peers to relate to what I was going through. I had also lost some friends as the years went on due to unforeseen circumstances. I went through an out of body experience myself after college which made me take a deeper look at where I was and what I was letting into my life. I had some losses this year as well which I was fortunate enough to have some much needed closure as a result. Life is about balance. I learn that more everyday the older I get. We have to take care of ourselves and know what works for us. I am grateful for so much in life but I’ve had to roll with the punches and dealt with some obstacles in the process. I am so thankful for the people I have in my life right now who are my real friends and family.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a kid I was always creating whether it was drawing, building or performing. My parents were in the entertainment industry. They always encouraged my hobbies and passions and were also adamant about my education. I began acting professionally as a teenager as well as being a videographer. I studied communications, law, and cinema at CSUN and graduated with a BA. After graduation I began working in the Voice Over Department at WME. This period is where I really developed my work ethic and discipline as I was working 12 hour days and handling 50 clients. Through the agency, I began making some contacts and booking roles in films as well as producing content. The last few years I began hosting my own talk show “On Air with Ka$h.” I love having discussions and sharing stories with colleagues and other artists whose work I admire. I value the journey we are all on together.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me is that I get to meet and collaborate with other creatives in the industry. I get inspired being around other artists so when I click with someone and we get to create something meaningful it brings joy to my day. When we are finished with our product and it is shared with our audience and it resonates with them, there is no greater feeling for me.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There have been a few chapters where I’ve had to make some life changes and pivot. I survived a lethal arrhythmia shortly after graduating college. For me this was an indicator that I wasn’t on the right track and I needed to reevaluate where I was going in life. I began working at WME which created stability and helped me to better understand the business side of the entertainment industry. While still at WME, I began getting offered parts in films and began producing content as well. As the industry changed with social media, I began working in public relations and events in addition to my other endeavors. The Pandemic coincided with my time at WME ending. This moment was scary at first as I was used to having a steady income and had to become a gig worker again which is something I hadn’t fully relied on being since college. This allowed me to explore my creativity further and as a result I began producing and hosting my talk show “On Air with Ka$h.”
