We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kasey Voss a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kasey, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish I would have found my passion for creating a beautiful space by doing events or balloons for events earlier on in my life so that I would be able to enjoy it longer.
Kasey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was younger and someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I never knew how to answer that. I didnt ever have a career that I thought I would be good at or that I would like to do. I have always been creative. I attended a performing arts school for middle and high school in upstate New York. I auditioned to get into the school in middle school for art and dance but chose dance as my major but always was creating something artistic at home. During the pandemic, I was bored scrolling through Instagram and came across balloon garlands. I loved how pretty they were. I loved the color combinations and the way the balloons were more than balloons, they were art to me. I started by buying some cheap balloons to practice on. I knew I needed more practice. I advertised on a local site that if someone was willing to provide the balloons I would provide my services for free. I did a couple of jobs after that and became better each time. I also started to plan parties for relative events and loved how creative I could be with the themes they had. This isnt my full time job but I hope someday it will be.
How did you build your audience on social media?
To build my social media presents, I started following other artists that I admire their work. Most of those artists followed me back. I also had business cards printed and put my social media information on them at events. I also use hashtags. Some of my followers are from hashtags that I used and people looking on those pages started following me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being creative is seeing the clients face when their ideas are brought to life. My hope is that I exceed their expectations. I have had many returned clients because of what I was able to do for them.
