Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Lorah.
Hi Kasey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with what I’m sure a lot of others go through – not really knowing what to do with their lives. I had gone to college and couldn’t ever really seem to find my place in that world. After switching majors a few times and switching schools, I still had no clue where I wanted to be or what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I had wanted to help people, but every major I dabbled in just didn’t feel right.
One day, I decided to make candles, soaps, and sugar scrubs for Christmas gifts for friends and family and that was the start of a new journey. I had friends asking for more and had received great feedback. This became a side hobby and I started to sell my handmade products at local craft shows.
One day during a college lecture, I had what I call an awakening. It felt like for the first time in my life a veil was lifted off from over my eyes and I could see clearly. I looked around the room and realized that this was not the place for me and I was just wasting my time. College was not for me and the decision to withdrawal was as easy as picking my clothes that morning.
After that, I focused on building my first business: The Mystic Mind, LLC
I had a stand at a local farmer’s market and attended craft shows/events to help build my business. With the help of my family, my business was able to succeed and move into a storefront in a shopping center in town.
June 21, 2017 we had our grand opening and are still here to this day!
The shop has grown and evolved over time, but my goal has always been the same – to help people. The Mystic Mind houses a variety of products and items to help people on their healing journey, organic and all natural body/household products, and even a handful of healers (Reiki Practitioners, Life Coach, Healing through Conversation, etc.) on deck to help anyone through their journey.
My wanting to help people has even merged with my love for candles and creating my second business, Mystic Cottage Candle Company. I wanted a healthier candle for people to burn that wouldn’t leave black soot, release unwanted extra chemicals, and damage their lungs or homes.
I may not be a nurse or a psychologist as I had originally went to school for, but I now see my journey was meant to be much different than others around me. I am thankful to be in a position where I can still fulfill my goal of helping people, just in a different way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We all go through bumps in the road on our journeys. Being a small business owner definitely has it’s moments of struggle. Through pandemics, economic struggles, and juggling all responsibilities, this journey was not smooth. But with dedication, support from family/friends/customers, and the want to succeed… we made it work. I’ve also come to understand and acknowledge that asking for help is more than okay. We don’t have to struggle alone and delegating some responsibilities when able has helped so much, especially when people are willing and wanting to help. Clear communication and working as a team is such a key role in helping any business succeed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My personal art form is candle making. While I have owned and ran a metaphysical/holistic gift shop for over 7 years, my specialty and passion is being a candle creator. With Mystic Cottage Candle Company, you get soy wax candles, made with a cotton core wick, and phthalate free fragrance oils.
I grew up being obsessed with candles, but always had asthma issues while burning other big brand name candles. My mission was to create a healthier version so that people who had similar issues could burn their favorite candles again!
We have customers that come to us all the time saying that they can finally enjoy candles again because ours did not give them headaches or asthma symptoms. Those reviews and positive feedback definitely makes what I do even more special.
My candles range from seasonal scents, aromatherapy, Reiki infused healing candles, crystal infused healing candles, wood wick candles, and more!
Any big plans?
The future is looking extremely bright! Aside from our booming storefront business, my goal for Mystic Cottage Candle Company is to expand even further than I can imagine. I can’t give too much away though! You’ll have to just look us up and see where we are in the near future :)
