Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kasey & Kaylee Wells. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kasey & Kaylee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
From Beverly Bakery was named after our grandma, Beverly, who taught us how to bake when we were younger. We miss our grandma so much and especially miss baking with her for special occasions. When deciding our bakery name, we thought of the idea of sharing our grandmas recipes and “from Beverly, through us, to our favorite people” popped into our heads. So this is now our mission. Every cake or sweet treat we share ultimately comes from Beverly. With lots of love from us of course!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are two sister who have a created a business recreating our grandmother’s recipes. We love baking and wanted to make our hobby a little more than a hobby. We classically started our business out of a season where we both were unhappy in our work environments. In an effort to take our happiness and success into our own hands, we jumped into the business planning side of our hobby. There are amazing bakers in our area who make beautifully extravagant cakes that we couldn’t even dream of making but what sets us apart is our bento cake (the cutest mini cakes) and our minimalist cake designs. We love simplicity so these are our favorite cakes! We haven’t really seen these types of cakes in our area and I fell in love with these designs on Pinterest and wanted to be able to offer that to our community. These are the types of cakes we specialize in and we love getting to sell bento cakes at local markets and pop-ups. They are (in our opinion) the perfect size cake for 2-3 people to share on a Saturday afternoon. We also specialize in allergy friendly and vegan flavors. This is another factor that we don’t see a lot of in our area. Hearing that our clients cannot tell that their allergy friendly cakes are allergy friendly brings us the most joy. We want everyone who desires a sweet treat to have access to them. We just released the ultimate vanilla allergy friendly cake that is free of most allergies. We are proud to be in a community that values women-owned small businesses and we love connecting with all of the other amazing small businesses in our little town.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One of our biggest compliments by our community (aside from the taste and look of our cakes) is about how much people love our Instagram and marketing. We are slowly building a presence on our TikTok and our Pinterest so right now, Instagram is our top social media. We have worked so hard to present ourselves to the world in a way that targets people who would like our type of work and we are so honored that it shows. The biggest thing we strive to do to succeed on social media is to be ourselves and post what we want, no matter how well the “engagement” is. I think this is an important factor in gaining a following that cares about you and looks forward to your next post. Obviously engagement is a big way to grow on social media but not being scared to post something silly or unique creates an authentic presence that people can appreciate.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We have a biased opinion but we truly believe we have some of the best clients. Beyond the support of buying products from us, our clients are so willing to share our business with the people in their life. A few things have helped with loyalty within our business (and we haven’t even been in business for a full year yet). First, we spend a lot of time making sure that the quality of our cakes are as high as we can make them. We are constantly growing and learning new tricks for baking and baking the best recipes we can. Another way we keep clients coming back for more cake is by staying in contact with them. We have the luxury right now to be very personable with each client as we are coordinating their orders and check back in with them to see how they and their party guests enjoyed everything.
