We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kasey Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kasey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a consumer I believe that the market needs more African American women who are business owners. Representation is very important to me and I am passionate about creating products that are holistic and health conscientious. In my research I found that the chemicals we inhale and put on our body has an adverse affect on the fertility in the African American community. As a woman who has hormonal imbalances and realizing my battle with fertility issues made me jump into action with creating a product that’s natural to ingest and put on our skin. Also being a licensed barber played and important role on the hair and body products as well.
Kasey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love for my home to smell good as soon as you walk in but I don’t like to inhale toxins which can be found in paraffin waxes which has petroleum in them. So I decided to start making my own natural products with ingredients you can pronounce and less harmful on the body. I make coconut/soy candles, room sprays, carper fresheners, Shea butters, beard oil, body oils, and hair oils.
My Shea butter has helped heal several skin conditions such as rashes and help relieve very dry skin and eczema. My hair oil has helped with hair baldness even those with alopecia have seen a difference.
I’m proud of my skin products because with my training and education as a license barber has helped people heal their body holistically..
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I’m very hands on with my customers . I will DM, email or text customers to ensure that their products have been received. I love getting customers feedback whether good or bad and see how I can improve and work on.
If customers received damage products I have them send proof and immediately send them another product.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Everyone will not support you just because they know you.
