Alright, Kasey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?

Since my business is 100% word of mouth, my clients mean absolutely everything to me! I am so appreciative of everyone who has shared pictures of my work, recommended me to someone and even just simply liking my posts on social media! It is such a rewarding job to be able to start with a blank canvas of someone and enhance their features in a way that makes them feel so confident, and so excited for an event or a big day in their lives. It is so important for people to feel 100% confident in their own skin and I’m so lucky that I get to help people feel that way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I have been doing make up for about seven years now, and I honestly got started with my business on such a whim, and I always say that I truly feel like it fell into my lap. When I was in college and needed a job, I ended up getting hired at Ulta Beauty in Mankato, MN and that was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I truly fell in love with make up and became obsessed over watching YouTube videos and practicing on all of my friends. I ended up doing makeup for one of my good friends’ weddings, seven years ago, and from there my friends really pushed me to pursue this as a business and I am so glad that I did. I would love to grow this business as big as it possibly can be! I am also currently a special education teacher so having this business has been such an amazing creative outlet for me outside of teaching. Currently I provide makeup services for weddings, prom, family, photos, photo shoots, and any other special event in someone’s life. I also do one on one makeup lessons where I help clients go through their current makeup and also pick out a new make up if they need to. My number one goal is for anybody who sits in my chair to feel comfortable, accepted, confident, and leave, knowing that I have truly valued the 30 minutes that we have spent together!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Building my presence on social media is something that I work towards every single day. It can be a little overwhelming, but I think the most important thing is to not compare yourself to other people and what they are doing, and just focus solely on yourself and what you have to offer and what content you have to offer and to show people. Something that has really helped me is on Sundays, I plan out all of my social media posts and reels for the week. That way during the week they just auto post and I don’t have to go in every single day and worry about posting and I can make sure that I am consistent and showing up every single day. Consistency is key!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

I honestly think the most effective strategy for growing your clientele is to just be yourself. Being yourself and being authentic speaks for itself, and really markets who you are as a person and what kind of clients you’re going to draw in. My business is 100% word-of-mouth and so I really work hard to show up every single day as the person that I am standing behind for my business and making sure that it is a safe and comfortable space that welcomes other people. Another piece of growing your clientele is to never stop learning new techniques and new strategies and new applications so that you can offer the very best services for your clients.
