We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kartel Stylez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kartel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

So I got the opportunity to make a pair of custom boots ordered by the one and only Tech N9ne himself. These boots were so special to me because it was one of my first orders from a celebrity but also these custom boots were being auctioned off for musicians who are struggling during Covid. So me and Tech N9ne teamed up with strange music to do a custom pair of KOD boots to help raise money for struggling artist during Covid. I believe those custom pair of boots raised about $5000 from just one pair of custom boots. Definitely one of my most meaningful ones to be able to help so many struggling artist out there with art itself is a true blessing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello my name is kartel stylez I am a Kansas City Missouri tattoo artist full time and also a celebrity fashion designer. Over the last couple of years I have scored some of the most artistic and biggest jobs I have ever done. Over the years I have became a part of an art organization in Kansas City Missouri becoming a featured artist at the worlds largest indoor graffiti wall inside of union station called graffiti attic. I personally have done 6 to 7 wall murals that would eventually go to be on Fox four news and also Kansas City TV 9 news which became the Kansas City Chiefs home opener which also landed me a job doing custom art for the Derrick Thomas foundation for the Kansas City Chiefs. Which also made me a sponsor to the Kansas City Chiefs for providing my art. Over the last couple of years after working with the great Tech N9ne I eventually grew to do a lot more projects with Tech N9ne Moore custom boots a custom wall mural at his home and that was just the beginning I would go on to score more jobs with many more celebrities doing custom boots such as 50 Cent, tech nine, jehry Robinson, t-pain, Tyreek hill, Travis kelce, the Mahomes family and many more! For the last couple of years I have been pushing my art at a astonishing rate trying to be consistent and trying to step up to the next level.

I think what sets me apart from other artist I’m willing to do what others want to get ahead. I’m willing to take the risk of being told no. I specialize in various of different arts. When I want to get something done I will not stop until I have accomplished my goal no matter the size of the goal.

Some of the art I do can be found on walls murals, shoes/boots, jackets, cars, canvas, people and also in peoples homes all a-crossed the world.

I would say that I most known for working with a lot of big-time celebrities and that is what most of my clients family friends and also potential clients know me as.

Some of my most proud moments are watching the reaction of celebrity clients solely enjoy my custom art I provide to them. You never really know what to expect showing somebody your art and everybody’s response is different and that is one of the most satisfying things to watch somebody of such stature who is also an artist really take passion and enjoy your art just as much as they enjoy their own!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is to move people with your art and having your art speak volume so much volume that your art stops people in their tracks to admire and listen to what the artist saying. To be able to create one piece of art that will move so many people all across the world is one of the most satisfying things of being a creative artist.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

I wouldn’t say I wish I would have known earlier about a certain trick or tip but I will say I wish I would have known to travel and study other artist sooner to be able to perfect my craft quicker. Art is definitely not a rush to process so to watch other artist maneuver through their process is some of the most detrimental things to learn while trying to move forward in your career as an artist!
