We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karrington White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karrington below.
Karrington , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I do, at times, feel misunderstood and mischaracterized in my life. Daily, embracing my non-binary life provides a new layer of misunderstanding from most people who have yet to venture beyond a traditional experience of gender identity. I am often misgendered by people in my life, offered different opportunities based on my gender appearance, and face discrimination in public spaces. These experiences teach me how to grow thicker skin, the importance of community, the value of self-love, and how to live without judgement.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Karrington White but some of my friends call me Karri because I care (chuckles). KarriRxS is this alter-ego alien that I created when I was in middle school because I needed a superhero at the time. Someone to save and comfort me from the bullies who made me feel like we had the same worth, nothing. Creating in that mind space was liberating for me because it helped me to translate my emotions to music. I am most proud of my latest project that I have been putting years of blood, sweat, and tears into. Exploring a new journey of spirituality, love, and independence all while having the best fun I’ve had in a long time. I cannot wait to share this project with my Kayliens and to release one of its singles in November 2022. I’m excited to share this new growing side of me to my friends and family.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The current mission that’s driving my creative journey is my freedom. Free from mental health, free from creative blockages, free from discrimination, free from deception. I also enjoy the different ways in which I process and produce art. I’m able to see my strengths and weaknesses all while finding new ways to write out what I feel.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the outward impact my music has on my family. I’m a passionate person when it comes to anything I enjoy, so when my loved ones feel something that I created, the feeling is indescribable. Being able to show them something so self-healing and vulnerable can be so comforting.
