We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karrington Warfield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karrington below.
Hi Karrington, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind my mission is pretty basic. I want to help develop other Event Planners into B.O.S.S. (Bright, Organized, Savvy, Star) planners. I want to share my knowledge of creating experiences by educating planners on how to become not just good at what they do but great. Also, I want to help planners master their soft skills such as organization. I’m a naturally organized person but not everyone is so, when planners are hosting a complex event and aren’t organized they will struggle with completing tasks, meeting deadlines, and causing themselves a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety. The great thing is that soft skills can be learned when they don’t come naturally. Learning how to effectively host meetings and events can cause a lot less stress and be much more enjoyable.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Karrington Warfield, better known as Coach K, The Planner’s Coach and I am an Event Strategy Coach. I teach Event Planners how to create goals and effective event strategies to host successful meetings and events by aligning events to sales, marketing, and corporate strategies to help my clients generate new leads. I think it’s important to teach individuals who are planning events to create a pre-planning strategy before planning any type of meeting or event.
My passion for Event Planning started over 20 years ago as a Corporate Event Planner. I am most proud of having the courage to believe in myself enough to start my own business and educate others about what I’ve learned throughout my career.
I think it’s important for clients to understand the purpose and objective behind all events and that creating a pre-planning strategy is the most important thing you can do for your events.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have never shared this but I have always felt like the underdog, that person that no one ever really pays much attention to, who is counted out, not good enough, overlooked, and who has been passed over for a number of opportunities, and promotions, amongst other things but they all make me want to work harder. One thing I have always done is bounce back after a setback and even when I fall down I will always get up. My life is what illustrates my resilience from disappointments, loss of family members, job loss, heartbreaks, financial setbacks…you name it I’ve been through it but I’m still standing. I’m just not built for quitting and I am determined to win!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Eight years ago I needed a change in my life so, I sold my house and relocated to Texas from Georgia. I can say that those were the hardest 8 years of my life. I was in a place that I hated, was unhappy, had no friends, and had little to no direction. Although I didn’t realize it, that time was much needed to spend with God, in the quiet.
During that time I got closer to God, learned to embrace who I was created to be, and started living in my purpose. I co-authored four books, started a business, and completed my Masters degree. I know that would not have happened if I had not relocated. I needed to redirect my focus and allow God to bring the best out of me.
