We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karolina Thornett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karolina below.
Alright, Karolina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
It’s been like a rollercoaster ride. I signed with my first Agent in the UK 5 years ago, I got my first job booked and it was a part of a BBC show called Line of Duty, I was over the moon to have my first TV credit! The Agency wasn’t that big and I wanted to see If I had a chance at one of the top agencies in the country. I got accepted and I got into really good shows but after two years (apparently because of Covid) the Agency dropped off lots of people and I was one of them. I was devastated and very upset. I do believe that “it can break you or make you”, so I decided that it would make me:) I approached Agencies in the UK and the USA. And guess what? I got accepted to one of the best Agencies in the USA and the UK. I became very close with my agent and I’m so happy I got dropped off from the previous agency!

Karolina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
An actress with credits on BBC, Netflix, and Channel 4. Currently working on a slapstick comedy for 2024. First show in the UK with Eastern European as a lead.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have it written in my soul. My first love was theatre and art. I felt magic every time I was on the stage. Since I was a child I dreamed about becoming an actress but my dreams were “hidden behind a wall” that I didn’t know how to climb for a long time. I left Poland and moved to the UK to start a new life, but I had no contacts and I had no idea how to become an actress here. I knocked on every door and when the door was closed, I tried to open the window. I’ve been rejected so many times that I stopped counting. I’ve been told that its the worst industry for mental health. I do agree with it, but I wouldn’t exchange it for anything else. I guess what drives me is the inner child inside me that I never killed

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I had an idea for a comedy show in 2019. I was looking for a producer for 4 years. Finally after sleepless nights and knocking on every door we have found a BAFTA-nominated producer. I do believe that there is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure. I don’t have a fear of failure anymore, I failed too many times!
