We were lucky to catch up with Karolina Lama recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karolina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The day I stopped complaining that my acting career had been a complete failure and decided to study psychology, my life changed forever. I was 28 years old and had spent ten years struggling to gain recognition as an artist, without much success. It’s hard to recognize the line between perseverance and stubbornness. It’s very distressing because the outcome determines if you are right or not. For me, it took six months bedridden with depression to read the signs from the universe shouting, “That’s not the way!”
Today, I firmly believe that the right path is not free of obstacles and requires perseverance, consistency, and determination. Still, in one way or another, it feels “easy.” From the moment I decided to become a psychologist and later a writer, doors began to open magically. My life became filled with synchronicities. With each step I took, I encountered people and situations that opened more and more paths for me to follow.
I realized that when we pursue our true passion, the universe conspires in our favor. What once seemed unattainable suddenly became possible. Life taught me that sometimes abandoning a dream doesn’t mean giving up, but rather redirecting our efforts towards where we truly belong. And on that new path, I discovered a more authentic and fulfilled version of myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For the past 15 years, I have been deeply committed to helping my patients overcome emotional eating. During this time, I have had the honor of guiding over ten thousand individuals, predominantly women, toward establishing a healthy relationship with food. This journey has not only led to weight loss but, more crucially, to maintaining it long-term.
As a psychologist with a master’s degree in individual, couple, and family therapy, I embrace a constructivist interactional approach. This philosophy asserts that change is always possible and that our personalities are continually evolving, not fixed at birth. This outlook is vital as it empowers us to shape who we desire to become, placing the responsibility squarely in our hands to forge a healthier, more joyful life.
This worldview has resonated deeply with my readers. My books, “I Want to Be Thin and Happy” (Quiero ser Flaca y Feliz, Ed. Planeta) and “Why Can’t I Stop Eating?” (¿Por qué no puedo parar de comer?, Ed. Penguin), have emerged as beacons of hope and agents of change. They provide avenues for healing that eschew reliance on medications or surgeries, offering a powerful message in a time where health is often tethered to pharmaceutical solutions like Ozempic or antidepressants. Through psychology, we can regain control over our narratives, which is both liberating and empowering.
In my practice, whether through individual or group therapy, visitors experience profound life transformations. After moving to the United States, I developed a health coaching program called Get Over Eat. This three-month initiative is more than a diet plan—it’s a comprehensive journey of personal growth that goes beyond conventional nutrition advice. It’s designed to help participants turn a new leaf, opening up a vibrant new chapter in their lives.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Success in our field isn’t just about what we know; it’s about how we connect and empathize with those we help. Beyond academic excellence, the heart of our work lies in our ability to offer deep compassion and understanding, creating a safe space where profound healing can occur. Effective communication allows us to forge strong bonds and articulate paths forward, while adaptability ensures we remain responsive to the ever-evolving needs of our clients.
Patience and persistence are our guiding stars, helping us navigate the often slow, yet rewarding journey of personal growth. Ethical integrity and self-awareness are paramount, as they safeguard the trust placed in us and ensure our interactions are conscientious and true to our values. For those managing their own practices, business acumen is also critical, enabling us to extend our reach and impact.
These qualities don’t just make us better professionals—they make us catalysts for change, empowering us to transform lives and inspire resilience. Together, they enable us to not just meet, but exceed the challenges of our calling and make a lasting difference in the world.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation is built on deep expertise and a strong commitment to changing lives. Each success story from my clients shows the trust and teamwork that define my work. I hold myself to the highest standards of integrity, which really connects with my community and colleagues. I’m always looking to improve, making sure my methods are the best out there.
My career blends my background in psychology with the creative insights I gained as an actress and author. Being a woman, wife, and mother also adds depth and understanding to my work. Most of my clients come through recommendations and from people who have read my books, which shows how much they trust and value what I do.
In the end, my work is all about making a real difference—starting positive changes, strengthening resilience, and improving lives. This is what truly shapes my reputation and keeps me passionate every day.
