We recently connected with Karolina Adams and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Karolina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am so grateful life unfolded this path of a professional artist for me. I stumbled upon the path while searching for my life’s mission…and for myself, in 2012. My background is in interior architecture. I worked in the field for about 6 years, when i realized the demanding schedule, the lack of artistic expression, the office atmosphere and the mundane space planning, were just too rigid for my free spirit. Creating art for a living is probably one of my most proud achievements in my life. I sketch/draw/paint everyday. Creativity recharges me and fuels my spirit. It allows me to purge my emotions and keeps me grounded.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an introspective artist, which means I puge my emotions with inks and graphite onto paper, usually. I use a striped socks character throughout my artwork to depict my feelings, emotions and stories. In my art I “talk” about love and the happy moments that come with it. I also share my struggles and triumphs, such as anxiety, doubts, depression, grief, etc. People relate to my work because, universally, we all experience those emotions, only under different circumstances. I, visally express what it is to be human.
When people view my work, they aren’t studying the brushstrokes or the play of light on a subject; they seem to be studying their own struggles, their own blessings and their own heart.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Personal growth and the need to purge my emotions is what has always driven my artwork. However, when i began showing my art publically, there was a shif that happened in my inspiration/mission. Seeing people react with a cry, or a laugh, when viewing my artwork, because they just found themselves on the wall, or found that they are not alone in dealing with a specific struggle, has motivated me to dig deeper and continue to bare my soul. When I feel people conncet to me via my work, gives me a sense of accomplishment that is so very special to me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The point of art is to make someone feel something. The point of my art is to initiate healing for anyone open to receive it. We, as society, tend to keep feelings bottled up. I am on a mission to open people up so they can start accessing the stuffed emotions, unblocking energetically and in turn, for some, healing physically and mentally.
