We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karol Caballero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karol below.
Karol, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission has been to provide high quality, unique and innovative products that satisfy a true need. As important as all of these are one aspect that stands out is innovation. These days there are so many look alike products and it’s easy just to replicate what is already not the market. It is our own requirement that we have at least one differentiating feature in our products. It may take us more time to come up with innovation, but it is our belief that we can improve upon existing products as well as create new ones. We have tested and used many items, primarily garment protection that just don’t last and can be detrimental to the environment. We don’t want to take the easy way out and actually create products we would use on a daily basis. This idea of quality garment protection stemmed from another business that solely focuses on combating clothes moths. We would get people calling in, literally in tears after being infested with clothes moths and losing everything., both expensive and sentimental items. In thinking about so many people who want to protect precious items, we knew what was already in the market was unsatisfactory. Bags made of plastic and other synthetic materials. We needed to find a way to provide protection using natural materials and then Hayden Hill was born. We are all about organic cotton and materials that are of the highest quality to protect what is most meaningful to people.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I had a number of different jobs throughout my career mainly around sales in franchising and software. I have spent over 20 years in sales and have found being authentic and getting to now your customer is imperative to ensure the products fits. After getting married, I fell into the business of clothes moths that my husband had already started. I have also been a huge fan of all things natural including cashmere, my true love. We create products made of all natural materials that provide the quality protection your precious garments deserve. Our bags are meant to protect from discolouration, humidity, odor and clothes moths. They allow for breathability unlike other plastic made bags that cause damage rather than protect. I am proud of the fact that all of our products are five star and we offer exceptional customer service. We stand by our products and listen to our customers to ensure they get the best. Without our satisfied customers there is no business – they come first. We pride ourselves on exceptional quality because that is what our customers deserve and have been waiting for. We take feedback very seriously and as the owner I love to hear from anyone and often I will respond myself. We have a very through quality control to ensure that products that don’t pass our specific standards don’t leave our facilities.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We sell both on Shopify as well as Amazon. The reason for the website if for validity and to tell our story. As much as Amazon is a giant in this world today, people still like to check websites and often times want to support small business through their websites. The reality of course is that a huge portion of todays society shops on Amazon so its a must for our business and many others. It’s a large revenue stream and access to instant potential customers due to prime shipping and one touch purchase. So many of us are busy with work, families and day to day activities that Amazon has revolutionized the shopping experience. Like all businesses, its about the bottom line and the net net as I like to call it. Without sales and consistent revenue stream it’s difficult to survive. It’s also very important to diversify because you never know when something may happen to one channel. The more channels one is on, the greater chance of success. One is a lonely number. We are also in the midst of exploring other platforms as well so as not to solely rely on one or two.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In developing this business it took us over a year just to develop the very first product. We wanted to get it just right and it was sample after sample and not until a trip to our supplier in person was made that we finally came to an understanding as to our expectations. We kept at it despite the excitement to sell to ensure the product fit the highest quality standards and was what we envisioned. It was important that we never settled and were going to keep insisting on quality from the stitching to the fabric regardless of the time it took. It’s that persistence that has allowed us to get five star reviews and have loyal customers.
