We recently connected with Karo Kozak and have shared our conversation below.
Karo Kozak, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
This is a really interesting question because I used to be mad at my parents for not putting me in acting as a kid. Growing up all I wanted to be was a child actor. I used to always say I would’ve had it so much easier. Looking back now, I am forever grateful I got to have a “normal” childhood because everything I got to experience shaped me into the actress I am today. I started my performing journey with dance classes at 3 years old but officially started acting at 16 by taking drama classes in high school. After that, everything has been coming into my life, as I have been ready for it and I believe that right now, I am exactly where I’m supposed to be!

Karo Kozak, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born to Polish parents and raised in Denmark.I have been dancing since I was four years old, which is where I believe my passion for performing started. Growing up I would always make my little sister and cousins perform sketches for our parents. There was nothing that made me feel so alive and happy as performing did. I was also in a band at my middle school where I sang. I truly have adored performing since I can remember. As I got older I worked on TV shows, commercials and starred in award winning landmarks such as the science fiction comedy “My Robot Brother ”, that could be seen in movie theaters all over Denmark. Since its release the movie has been nominated for national and international awards.
I made the move to Los Angeles, California, when I was 19 years old to study at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts with a scholarship. Since moving, I have been fortunate to have gotten to perform in principal roles in award-winning and internationally renowned films. Something exciting I have premiering later in the year is an anthology series, which was already teased at recognizable film festivals in Hollywood with exceptional reviews. I can’t wait for that to come out! Other projects I have had a blast working on have been short films such as “Everything Is Not What It Seems”, “Changing Perspectives” and “Zoe”.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There are many rewarding aspects of being an actress. One of the most rewarding ones is the fact that I get to have my passion be my job. I wake up every day and truly do what I love the most! It’s definitely not an easy career to pursue and there are many hurdles I have to jump over on a daily basis. However, at the end of the day I’m doing it! Every obstacle I have to face is worth it, due to this adrenaline rush you get when acting. It can’t really be explained other than it being like a drug. The more you do it, the more you want it. Also, seeing people be affected by my work. To know that I made them feel all sorts of emotions and took them on a journey is extremely gratifying and fulfilling!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think many non-creatives have a hard time understanding why actors would pursue such an unreliable and unstable career. I believe unless you are an actor yourself, you will never truly understand it! Until you have felt the adrenaline rush of performing it’s not going to make much sense to you. Actors can’t see themselves doing anything else but act. We do it because we feel like we are being called to do it and no other path in life would be as fulfilling. It drives us and gives our lives purpose. If you are an actor for the right reasons, pursuing acting is never about the realistics of it, the money, the fame, the possibility of failure but solely about our passion, drive and desire to entertain.
