We recently connected with Karmy B. Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Karmy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
As a nano influencer, I’ve learned the resources are limited for us and the industry seems to cater to larger influencers for brand deals and partnerships. In the short year and a half of full-time nano influencing, I’ve learned there is great possibilities for nano influencers if they understand and apply the industry and their collateral. In May of 2022, I launched a workshop titled How to Monetize Your Instagram with Less than 10K followers. I created this space for nano influencers especially, not exclusively to come and learn how I’ve secured a 5 figure, 4 figure and multiple 3 figure brand deals in my first year. I have always been passionate about serving those who are underserved, especially when I stand beside them. It’s hard to learn from someone who has hundreds of thousands of followers, telling you it’s possible for you to do the same and make a career out of influencing. I inserted myself as I seen not one person catering to those with smaller followings and actually giving them tangible advice on how to be successful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Karmy B. Smith, full-time lifestyle content creator and entrepreneur in Dallas, Texas. I started influencing on the side with my business KBS Multimedia where I helped brands get clarity on their message, tone and personality in the marketplace. What sets me a part is that I am in the fight with my clients whether they’re new business owners or nano-micro influencers. I am not at a level where I am too high to identify with my clients day-to-day struggles as well as their hopes to achieve more. I am most proud of my workshops for influencers which has turned into a community of nano influencers who share resources and tips on how to navigate this industry.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The main thing that has helped build my reputation is my high quality imagery, storytelling and authenticity. I am forever showing up online as my best self and giving authentic stories of the everyday life of a full-time creator.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I foster brand loyalty with my clients by checking in with them and engaging with their content consistently and truly being available to them for their questions and concerns in this industry.
