Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karmisha Superville . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karmisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
Planning and organizing events can be an exciting experience, but it also brings a challenges to profitability. In any business especially black owned enterprises it is the very present challenge of access to opportunities without barriers and obstacles to ascertain these opportunities.
We’ve experienced many instances whereby whenever we work on our business. We experienced pushback and frustration at every step. From complicated request for proposals (RFP), long delays in response from procurement personnel, logistics to unforeseen difficulties, every event brings a series of hurdles that need skillful problem-solving.
Another major challenge would be budget constraints which are significant challenge for seasoned event planners. We often encounter these challenges when working with certain clients especially during the economic downturn. Limited funds may restrict the scope of the event and hinder the ability to deliver a memorable and successful experience for attendees.
We’ve also noticed that technical difficulties can cause a great deal of disruptions during and after the event. This can lead to delays, malfunctions, and a negative impact on the overall attendee experience.
In addition some of the biggest challenges, I would definitely say is poor guest list management. It can be difficult especially when dealing with many attendees and tracking RSVPs on the demand.
Mismanagement of the guest list can lead to confusion, overcrowding at the event, or the lack of essential event resources.
Lastly, one of the major challenges related to the event industry from a producer and or creator perspective is. The Insufficient promotion and low attendance.
This can be disheartening for event organizers. I have had my share of this disappointment. I recalled planning a huge event for my immediate community.
We had worked various aspects to ensure that we had a massive turnout. We had canvass the area for weeks whereby posting marketing flyers throughout the area. We partnered with other companies and community partners.
We secured media coverage to help get the word out. However, on the day of the event. The turnout was lukewarm. It was still a successful event. Nonetheless, we had hope that more of the community had an opportunity to take advantage of all the resources we had available at the actual event.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Karmisha Superville, I like to say, that I’m a multi-hyphenate individual. Simply to say, I am one thing would be an understatement. I have learned over the years to embrace with grace my many talents. However, I would like to provide the readers with an outline of my journey, career and lasting legacy beyond my professional career.
I started my academic journey as a budding student at IS 232 thereafter, attending Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers. I wasn’t sure what was next or what to pursue for my undergrad.
However, I wanted a guided college experience. Therefore, four years later, I graduated from the renowned Herbert Lehman College with a Bachelor in Business Administration and Marketing.
Thereafter, I had an opportunity to work with the United States NAVY as a Protocol Intern in the Office of Communications at NAVSUP. After years of working in the Corporate sector. I decided to take a leap of faith and launched my Event and Management firm. And just like that, Ebk Events was birthed.
We are a full-service event and consulting firm bringing you top of the line event management and expert client representation.
Our firm is known for planning top-notch mission-focus events and creative marketing solutions. We embrace technology and provide our clients which includes; high level entrepreneurs, business to business and government agencies with professional, exceptional results.
We are event experts in the metro New York City market, and balance professionalism and a high level of attention to detail and overall client care.
As the Senior Event Planner and Business Consultant at EBK EVENTS, we are a certified M/WBE (minority women-owned business) event planning and consultation firm. We have been in business for over 7 years now. And have built this business from the ground up.
Today, I have a team of event planners, vendors and strategic partners that work closely with us. We have planned some of the most successful events for nonprofits, small businesses and city agencies respectively.
Some of these iconic events include, the first ever Black Fashion Matters NYFW, The Fierce Fabulous Unstoppable Conference, Catalyst Youth Summit; a direct partnership with the Department of Youth alongside the Office of the Mayor.
In conclusion, we believe in true philanthropy through providing the next generation of change-makers with the necessary mentorship and resources to help them develop and improve their overall business acumen and skills for long term success.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think the most important factor for any business owner and or entity is the story of resilience. It is the silent battles we fight. That shows the true essence of our strength and love for our craft. I myself, have had to fight silent battles however, I am stronger because of them. Most recently, I was provided with some not that great medical news. Immediately, I began feeling somewhat melancholy. However, I knew it was for the best and that my health will always be the greatest wealth. Therefore, I embraced this setback and made the best decision to move forward.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite marketing stories was the feeling of success on my terms. Picture it. For nearly a year, you have produced one of the best movies ever. You cast top notched actors for each role. Secured the best writers and co-directors to debut your blockbuster movie.
And after all your hard work. You scored. You now get an opportunity to walk across the golden globe stage and accept your Award.
This was my exact feelings three years ago. I took a leap of faith and pivoted my event planning business somewhat. I wanted to try a different approach to story telling and client retention.
Therefore, my team and I decided to plan and curate a unique youth conference focus on financial literacy and wellness. We had experience much pushback and setbacks. However, I kept planning, kept pitching and kept attending meetings after meetings, working towards that one solid “YES.”
And just like that, we secured two major investors who believed in our vision. Ultimately, after these two major players signed on. We were able to acquire other dynamic investors. And after a year of planning and research development. We launched our youth conference which was successful.
We had booked renowned entrepreneurs across New York City, State congressional representatives, The Mayors office and celebrities alike.
In conclusion, the event allowed us to explore a different revenue stream and secure strategic partnerships with other brands.
This was my Oscar moment. This was my well earned golden globe. It felt remarkable to have so many dynamic leaders and seasoned professionals believed in my vision and ability to execute.
