We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karmen Flores a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Karmen, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Coordinate Creative started as a simple way to help creative entrepreneurs maintain their livelihood during uncertain times in 2020. Now, nearly five years later, I have the honor to help dozens of female-led businesses not just maintain, but flourish and grow within their business.
The legacy I strive to build with Coordinate Creative is one of turning ideas and dreams into reality through creative strategy and enthusiastic support for female entrepreneurs.
I hope to be remembered by my clients that even on the days they doubted themselves, I believed in them and their dream.
I hope to be remembered by everyone else as the person who didn’t give up, evolved as needed and led with integrity and creativity.

Karmen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Coordinate Creative was born from a deep love of storytelling, strategy, and a desire to see all creative entrepreneurs thrive and flourish. I started out as a general virtual assistant, but I quickly noticed a pattern: female founders with powerful stories and innovative ideas, but no clear way to express them. Their messaging felt scattered, their visuals disjointed, and they often didn’t feel seen within their own brands. That’s where Coordinate Creative evolved into what it is today.
My mission is to help creative entrepreneurs bring clarity, and personality to their brand through strategic storytelling, intentional copywriting. I help my clients uncover the story they actually want to tell and then craft it in a way that feels refined, intentional, and aligned.
I offer brand strategy, content marketing, long- and short-form copywriting, and creative direction for founders who want to express themselves authentically, without following every trend.
What sets Coordinate Creative apart is the balance of artistry and structure. It’s not just about making your brand look good—it’s about making it feel like you. There’s a reason “Coordinate” is in the name: everything is thoughtful, intentional, and designed to help you feel confident in your voice and your digital presence. I like to think of Coordinate Creative as encapsulating the elegance of Vogue, the substance of The New York Times, and the curiosity of Condé Nast Traveler, all wrapped in a ribbon of whimsy.
What I’m most proud of is how often clients walk away feeling seen and empowered. Whether you’re a solo founder prepping for launch or a seasoned entrepreneur ready to evolve, I help tell your story in a way that resonates, with you first, and then your aligned audience.
At its core, Coordinate Creative is about words with weight, stories with heart, and strategy with soul. It’s an honor every time someone lets me into their brand and their journey.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Last year was one of the most challenging chapters of my life—personally and professionally. I faced major health complications due to unresolved issues from a surgery nearly two decades ago. Over the course of eight months, I was in and out of hospitals, underwent five surgeries in six months, and found myself in complete survival mode. As a solopreneur, that reality hits especially hard. When you’re the business, and the business depends on you—there is no out-of-office. Creativity, client work, and strategy had to take a backseat to healing, and truthfully, I didn’t know if I’d ever find my way back to Coordinate Creative.
There was a moment, somewhere between hospital visits and recovery naps, when I genuinely believed I’d journeyed the last mile with my business. I thought about returning to a traditional 9-to-5 and letting Coordinate Creative live as an adventurous detour in my career. I was burnt out and disconnected from the heart of my work. The business model I’d built no longer felt fulfilling. I started browsing job boards, looking for stability, but every time I imagined myself clocking into a corporate role, it felt like trying to squeeze my soul into something two sizes too small.
So instead of burning it all down, I set down the matches and got to work.
Slowly, I started reconnecting with my vision, one brand presentation at a time. I reached out to entrepreneurs who inspired me. I reshaped my offers around what felt most aligned. It was very slow at first, and the industry had changed a lot since I started in 2020—but so had I. And what emerged on the other side was an evolved version of Coordinate Creative that felt more “me” than ever before.
Today, I feel more aligned, more inspired, and more in love with this work than I ever have. That experience didn’t just test my resilience, it rewrote what it means for me to show up with heart, purpose, and clarity. It reminded me that the most meaningful brands aren’t built overnight; they’re built in seasons, with pauses and pivots, and with a lot of grace in between.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m a big reader, always have been. There’s a rotating stack of books on my nightstand at all times, and reading has always been a source of grounding and inspiration for me. A few titles in particular have shaped the way I think about creativity and structure.
The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is a must. It’s the book I return to when I feel disconnected or creatively depleted. Doing Morning Pages, in particular, has been a quiet ritual that helps me process, make space, and come back to the “why” behind the work and in life. It’s a reminder that creativity isn’t just a skill, it’s a relationship that needs care and time. It’s easy as a service-based business to put everyone else’s creative needs first, but this book reminds me that nurturing my own voice and creative process is essential to showing up fully for my clients.
Atomic Habits by James Clear showcases that consistency doesn’t have to be major to be impactful. Especially as a solopreneur, it’s the tiny, intentional shifts like how I structure my day or approach a creative task that create real momentum over time. That philosophy has helped me build a business with less overwhelm and taught me how to harness the confidence to take more action.
Profit First by Mike Michalowicz completely reframed how I view money and financial flow inside my business. It gave me a simple and attainable framework for making confident, values-aligned decisions without compromising my work.
